His mare Deedee came in lame from the field last monday night (after galloping madly up and down), vet out tues as she has injured her SDFT twice previously - scanned and it's gone again.

He is hugely upset as he has spent the last 2 years bringing her extremely slowly back into work after the last injury and was just at the point of starting taking her to dressage parties - unfortunately she will never be ridden again

She won;t box rest, so after advice from the vet she is being turned out daily with no bute (only slightly lame in trot) and we are crossing everything she doesn't injure it further. She's is a very excitable mare who does 0-60 in no time

She's much better today than she was a week ago so we (and the vet) are hopeful she will return to soundness - vet thinks possibly enough for a light hack but OH can't bear the idea of it going again and she will be 18yo by then so she is having a new career as a grass eater and possibly a mum next year

It's gutting for your OH as he has put so much time & effort into her. Hopefully she will stay reasonably sound, and have a good retirement.

Maybe a new project will help him

Girla - unfortunately we just can't afford a new project at the moment but a friend has a 4yo who needs some schooling on she has offered as she just doesn't have time, been offered alot of freebies to own but all sound like too much of a problem (or have had previous tendon issues and he won't want to take that on again)

Miller don't blame him for not wanting to take on another horse with problems, the schooling project may help him to brighten up a bit.

Hope all goes well
