Has any one tried the lightweight cheese grater stirrups. I sometimes loose my stirrup and someone told me that they keep your feet in the stirrup better?

Yes I have the Royal Rider ones and they are very grippy!
The downside is I have scraped my hands on them more than once and they have scraped my saddle. So have taken them off and put the rubber grips back on for the winter (it came with both) but the cheesegraters will be back on for XC as thy are good.

I have Reflex stirrups which are fairly grippy, but i think this is a rider error rather than anything, you need to concentrate on your position, I always check my position after I mount, and then five minutes after, and after each little school exercise, has improved my position.
Do you have a good pair of boots, ie stiff soles, and heels.
Ask your instructor to "go back to basics" I think if you do any "without stirrups" trotting, you will find you are struggling.

Thanks for info, cross country is where I sometimes loose my stirrup, its when she jumps big and then the ground drops away. Last year I lost my stirrup at Broadway over the wall and couldn't get it back, jumped the log into water , next jump and farmyard combination and then tried to pull up to get foot back in stirrup and slid off in middle of field. I was gutted would have ended up 3rd so next year I am hoping to keep feet securely in stirrup.

Have used the cheaper ones for years, all the family like them, haven't had any problems with scratching saddles or hands, but have had 2 break, which is not a pleasant experience, one over rather a large jump on a very sharp over reactive TB, the other out hacking on OH's big lad who was normally unflappable but did leap in the air and try to take off (very unlike him), when they broke they sounded like a minor explosion, certainly made for an interesting ride home on a very uptight spooky horse with one stirrup, Mark Todd I'm not:D

Now in the process of replacing the ones we have left with the Royal Riders

I've ridden in them once, and hated them - sorry to differ. I have Sprenger System 4's on my saddles, and find they are fantastic for helping keep stirrups once I'd learnt to ride in them.

Have you looked at the MH stirrups and boots?? Have heard good reviews about them :)

Havent tried them personally as i cant get the boots wide enough for my calf  I tend to have really chunky rubber grips on my steel stirrups but I also the the TG stirrups and I have to say my feet havet slipped with them :)

I'm not a massive fun as find then very hard n the soles of my good boots but I certainly understand the attraction! I prefer the sandpaper type.

Love them, keep my feet wonderfully secure. I have them on all of my horses' saddles bar dressage. I would thoroughly recommend them, there's a reason why they're so popular for eventing!
