Having just looked up his weights, he ran carrying yesterday 10stone 9lbs today it was up to 11st 8lbs on Saturday it will be 12st so looks like the handicapper has caught up!!

Weights are deceiving though. It depends on many factors. If it was a straight Novice race they all run off of the same weight, win one get a 7lb penalty next time, win 2 its another 5 or 7lb added on. Handicaps it depends on the rating of the top rated horse in the race and what your rating is to them as to what weight you carry and that can vary from race to race. A claimers weight comes into it too. The race he won at Warwick was a "Boys" race so he gets away without a penalty for that. In a handicap He will run off of the mark he had at entry stage no matter if it changes after, he would just carry a 5lb penalty for winning between entries and new race, 7lb for 2 wins I think. So there are many many factors into what weight they carry and it can get quite confusing.

Doncaster 4th 10st7lb rating - 79 top weight ran off of 100.

Southwell 1st 10st8lb rating - 79 top weight ran off of 100 - provisional mark of 93 (up 14lb)

Warwick 1st 10st12lb still running off of 79 as entry went in before he won at Southwell, had a 7lb penalty for winning but had 5lb taken off by claimer jockey. So effectively running off of 86.

Sedgefield 1st 10st9lb running off of 86 for 7lb penalty as marks come out on Tuesday's but don't affect that day. He does not carry a double penalty because the previous win was a "Boys" race and they don't penalise them for winning those.

At Huntingdon today he ran off of his new mark of 93 which means he carried his true new weight of 11st8lb in a race for horses rated up to 100.

If he goes to Fontwell he will run off of 93 with a 7lb penalty which would give him a mark of 100 for the day.

He will go up again for todays win but that won't come in until next Tuesday and any entries before that will be run off of 93.

I was shouting Francky Du Berlais home in the cross-country, I’ve followed him for years so I was pleased to see him enjoying himself as he’d rather lost his way this season. I thought he was running a cracker until he refused at the last 🤣 Not that he was getting near the first two horses who are a class above him but a place would have been nice at 100/1!

Thank you Elf I have absolutely no knowledge of how horses are ranked or how rankings come into play when entries are made. Every day is a school day when it comes to NH racing I live and learn!!!
