Is anyone going? We are thinking of going for the first time! Never ever been racing before, love watching the jump season never watch the flat season

Can someone recommend which tickets to buy, I've had a quick look and can fathom out that you have a choice of 3, cheap, middle of the road or expensive!! What I want to know is, for a first timer, what would you recommend?

Thankies

If you are going & are planning on stay here for the festival I'd recommend you book your accomadation quickly! It always gets booked out quickly & I have seen people sleeping rough on park benches during race week!

Festival week is always fantastic & although I have never been to the race meeting itself, the night life in Cheltenham afterwards is always good fun

I would have thought the middle of the road tickets would be a good start for a first timer (knowing lots of people that do go to the festival each year)

Thanks, not planning on staying, we're just going to come up for the day, it's only about 2.5hr drive from us and am bringing my parents, so no night life needed!

we went on gold cup day last year, for my 18th birthday pressie, as im alittle obsessed with NH racing

we had the cheap tickets, (well still very expensive) so were in the best mate enclosure on the other side of the course. lovely view of the racing, but the atmosphere wasnt the same. also no access to the shops or paddock

we said if we went again we would go for the more expensive tickets, so might be worth spending a little more.
still could get close to the horses, as you could stand next to the area where they were unloaded and the entrance to the stables etc.
an amazing day out though- do go it you get the chance- because the roar from the crowd is immense. try and get GC tickets, then you can see the kauto star denamn clash- thats if they both make it, lets hope they do

sorry for the essay!

Sounds fantastic hun, won't go on GC day as I really want to see it stride for stride

Think it'll be middle of the road tickets.

yeah i know what you mean, stride for stride on channel 4 is going to be good!

yes the middle tickets should be good, then youre on the main part of the course, and in the the main bunch, so the atmosphere would be better. in the middle of the course we sort of felt left out!
what day do you think you might go to? tbh any day would be fab- the whole thing is fab!!!
also watch out for the drunks, its rather hilarious walking back to the carparks, amongst drunk happy men, the crowd is predominantly men! its all good

Any day will be great, but if you can, go on the first day & buy the most expensive tickets, because then you have access to more of the racecourse. Stand on the grass out the front for the first race - the roar from the crowd when the race starts is amazing. Get a spot by the rail if you can so that you can see the screen and the finish - need to be there early! It is also possible to buy seats in the grandstand, although these might be sold out by now. Otherwise, I tend to stand up on the grandstand directly back from the finishing straight - if you get there well in advance of each race starting then you'll be able to see really well.
It is always crowded so you have to plan what you are going to do carefully - e.g. if you want to see them walk around the paddock before the race then that might mean you can't get a particularly good spot for the race itself. I can also recommend walking across the course and down to stand next to one of the big fences - especially during one of the long races where they jump the fence more than once.
Hope that helps a bit!

me me me!!! Its wonderful, day 1 is a good day to go (Tues) and the roar of the crowd when the first race starts is amazing - its champion hurdle on day 1

Weds would also be good, my fave race is on too, Queen mother champion chase - super fast and super good jumping horses that day

I am going on Tues, and then if i can wangle a free ticket again through work, i will be there on friday too!

Me! I'm going too! GC Day......we have tickets in the Guiness stand.

We shop all morning and then put all our bets on before the first race otherwise it's so crowded , it's all push and shove!

Can't wait....really hope Denman and KS both make it......go Ruby, go Ruby!

Think will try to go on the wednesday, I prefer the chase fences than the hurdles and as its the QM's Champion chase thought it would be the better day.

I'm trying to blag my bosses son's tickets, he is the Crown Equery and so will probably have been given V.I.P tickets to the Royal enclosure, do you think I'll pass as Royalty??
