Or you could do what I do, 2 reins but knot the gag rein and just let it lie there until /unless you need ABS brakes )
Believe me, horsie still knows its there so behaves
In H&H this week there was piccie of a tiny child out hunting on a little grey pony with what looked like a cheltenham gag with ONLY the gag rein - clearly he required quite a lot of brakes!!
I def wouldnt use roundings, even more on this one than on a Pelham as the action is so direct.
when i first got my pony she was in a cheltnham gag, with jus one rein. we found it was worse for her, as it lifted her head higher... which built up her muscle underneath her neck, and used that to pull and tank off.
Hi - am thinking of trying an american gag - what sort of mouthpiece do you have on yours? How severe is it?
My horse is very strong and have tried the wonder gag which is OK.
Any advice you can give will be great
Thanks
My American gag have a jointed mouthpeiece just like a snaffle. look at link ,I find it works well, even on the really strong horse, and they are cheap..
