My daughter rides Toto in a cheltenham gag for PC because he can get excited and strong and she finds it stops him getting his head down to lean on her hands , but his brakes are no good and I was wondering if a different mouthpiece might help , the one he's in is a single jointed , a few of you have recommended a waterford mouthpiece but are they good for brakes or just for the leaning ? she needs something that he will listen to and not ignore like he does now

I hunt in a waterford mouth piece with cheeks in a cheltneham ga (or Nelson gag) as it is know. Gives me really good breaks & steering. I had tried numerous variations of bits before that. It was the only one to work. Trial & error I am affraid is they way to find one that works for your daughter & pony. Good luck.

or maybe try a myler combination bit as they use poll pressure. I had an old horse who had a cut in his mouth from old hunting days and he was quite dead to the running gag in his mouth xc, although was fine with a grackle and cheltenham gag sj, i found the myler combination excellent xc... worth a try?
