CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP

[ QUOTE ]

Next year will be the real test when Denman has a proper run up and is in full health.
You can't compare a horse who's training has been spot on all year to a horse that has been off through illness.

Agreed, they're banging on that Kauto wasn't right last year and hailing him as the greatest horse ever. Well Denman wasn't right this year ... delighted to see him jump so well and get home safe

Yep. At least Denman has had a well documented and legitimate reason for not winning. All they could say aboutKauto last year was that he seemed a 'bit off'.
Tests later, proved there was nothing wrong with him.

It's a bit of a hollow victory imho. At the end of the day, kauto has beaten a horse who's been out of training because of a heart problem.

And now they're going on and on about how well Kauto ran and jumped, well Denman did that all last year!!

I watched Denman all the way this year and he was running and jumping superbly, threw in a few huge leaps on the way, not least at the last jump

((hugs)) for Denman

Last year Kauto Star won a Grade 1 at Ascot on 18th February and was found to have pus in his foot when they got him home. That was probably a factor in his second place to Denman less than four weeks later and he battled up the hill to get that. Denman's race prior to his Gold Cup win was a Grade 2 on 9th Feb.

I'll go with what the jockey said "He's the greatest horse I've ever ridden. Two miles, three miles, now two Gold Cups. He's magic, he's a wonder horse."

Also pleased with getting on him at 3-1 after his third King George!

Other than remove the fences I can't see what could be done - and horses break legs in flat races too. And if you did that you would have to stop eventing and show jumping as well as horses get hurt doing that (and in eventing the riders probably aren't as good as jockeys).

As for the race. WELL DONE Kauto Star and Denham. What a trainer, how everyone cheered. A great performance.

Have to say I love Denman and am not a fan of Kauto but yesterday Kauto blew me away. His jumping was spot on and he never looked like being beat. His jumping was what has always put me off him as Ive always thought hes to argorant over his fences. but yesterday he never put a foot wrong.
What did Clive Smith do to derseve two amazing horses.
