Re the NDB thing, surely its a case of first come first served to get positioned at the start, if someone is already in a spot, you cant just expect them to move because youre more senior

Would NDB have done the same to someone like Paul Townend for example?

I don’t think there’s any need to involve the stewards. Jockeys have been swearing at each other in races since time immemorial. They have to work together to sone extent, going forwards.

I do think, as Ruby showed on the ITV coverage, that some of the starts, particularly for the big handicaps, need re-visiting in terms of location, rail placement, and distance from the first fence/hurdle. Certainly it does not appear that the 2m5 hurdle start has enough room to enable all the horses a fair and equal chance. The jockey definitely need to work together, but I think one thing the sport is great at is looking at things that don't work well and getting them changed. The 2m5 start will definitely be coming under some scrutiny in the wash-up meetings.

Couldn’t agree more.

Is it raining at Cheltenham ?
Have seen pictures of people struggling with umbrellas so looks like it though not sure how much. They are saying that Fact to File may not run because of the ground - I think he wants more rain though again not sure.

Cant wait live again but they really start needing to issue fines/heavy bans theyre almost bringing it into disrepute at this point because the starts are so embarrassing

F1 drivers get time penalties or stop go penalties if they jump the start
Trouble is that without a good start they might as well go home

They're currently almost getting worse starts with all this nonsense as you have so much inconsistency, there was one yesterday think race 2? Where they looked to be going too quick, but they let them go, then with the standing starts you have even more disorder trying to get everyone the right way/not booted/equal
The race 2 yesterday the ones out the back almost looked like they were expecting a false start, but nope, off they go! And effectively were penalised by trying to obey the rules and keep steady, as the ones in front got away with running in

Short of stalls really not sure what the solution is, theres at least one false start every Saturday usually too

Why aren’t starting stalls used in jumps races? Size of the field?

There have always been shambolic starts in jumps racing, you’d think that the powers-that-be would have worked out to organise things by now.
Too dangerous to have everyone in a row coming to the first jump

They use them in Japanese jump racing, although the fields are generally smaller than over here.

I think if they did introduce them, then they’d have to restrict the field sizes down a bit with some of the big handicaps and review where the starts are situated especially with the configurations of some of the UK courses.

Ultimately I do doubt they’d ever be implemented here, I’d prefer them to use some sense about how they are positioning the starts and the railings.
