They usually stay on and stay tight until the horse is walked off and back in it'd stable...

We always undo them as soon as we get to the horse. The odd horse throws its head about like a twit so we leave it as we are walking and undo it as soon we stop to let the Jockey off. I either loosen mine or take it off completely as it both looks better for pictures and doesn't annoy them with it flapping about 😂

That's shocking they leave them while walking off too... why don't they get pulled up on it? The winner of the first had his undone really quickly too.

The last race where there was a fatality - am I mistaken or does that often have one? Maybe needs reviewing?

Just watching now as was at work, the finishes look so much better without whips waving everywhere, don't think DF picked up his stick. PT could have used his less as he was so far clear but DF ride looked great as he didn't use it at all on the run in as far as I could see

Yeah his face is quite unique! It also shows you that you can find value if you look in the right places. He cost £17000 because he was a late starter and went to sales as a 6yo. If he had been 5yo he would have been £77000.

I have a (maybe) stupid question.

What's the difference between a 'chase and hurdle?

A chase is over larger, fixed obstacles (4’6 if I remember correctly but water jumps are smaller) which can also include a variety of fence types (plain, open ditch or water).

Hurdles are smaller (3’6), generally they knockdown but some courses have fixed hurdles (Southwell, Worcester(?)) and quite a lot of the Irish courses have the EasyFix, fixed hurdle design (I studied the differences of horse falls over the two hurdle types as part of my MRes thesis).

ETA: Hurdles are either constructed from brush, artificial brush or the OneFit padded hurdle. Chase fences are normally birch brush.

If anyone is interested in fence design (maybe it’s just me 🤣), here are the BHA specification. Just to add that the guard rails etc are now painted white, not matt orange as stated. At one point they said neon yellow was safer but this never materialised on a course.

Hi all, late to this but Elf I have a question if you don't mind? In the interview with Scu after the race he said Corach had a place in his heart, or words to that effect. What does he do with the horse at home? It piqued my interest when he said that because I've never heard Scu speak so emotionally about a horse.

My pound isnt on him but I hope Edwardstone does the business today.

He rides the horse out at home every day. I say he rides it. He sits on it and Corach does what ever he likes at whatever speed he likes 😂 he has ridden him at home for the last few years. It's quite comical. The horse takes the absolute mickey out of him and it works. Horse is fit, happy and well, Scu is laughing. It all fits together nicely.
