Cheltenham

We are moving to Devon ( hooray!) and are hoping to meet up with friends from Essex at Cheltenham in October.
Maybe a very long shot, but can anyone recommend any hotels? I don’t mind if they aren’t Cheltenham itself but maybe up to 30 minutes away? I don’t know the area at all.
