Well I have to say not the best week-end
but the main problem was not horse related. Arrived on Saturday and walked the course which wasn't overly big but had quite a few combiations and the odd tricky line. Walked it again after tea with the dogs (2 greyhounds and a lurcher) and the two greyhounds were playing collided heavily and Simba managed to have a gash in his side behind the shoulder about 3 inches long and quite deep. Typical greyhound was stood there screaming. Calmed him and got him back to the lorry. Eventually located a duty vet in Chepstow so having got appropriate instructuions for taking the lorry into town (it's now 9pm) we took him in and he had to be put out and stiched up. Over £200 worse off and with one sorry sore greyhound we got back to the event at gone 11pm.
Anyway next day dressage I thought was an improved test yet we got the worse mark for a while of 40
. Sjing seemed fairly small although I must admit I missed the course walk and it may have been an optical illusion with the long grass. She jumped a nice clear anyway.
Xc she gave me a good feel and powered round the course - but we had our first ever XC penalties at a tricky combination of rail short stride ditch another short stride narrow triple brush all on a slight left curve. Unfortunatly just as we were approaching another horse was passing us as the tracks were close at that point and I just did not get her between leg and hand enough and she just never locked on the triple brush and we went out the side. I don't think she realised she had run out as she didn't realise she was meant to jump it. This combination did cause quite a few problems even for the more experienced combinations.
Flew round the rest of the course confidently although one other nasty in the water where she left her stifles on the log in and lost momentum nearly causing me to fly over her head
. Luckily she put her head up and saved me a ducking! Flew over the last few combinations really well so generally pretty please although rather peed off with out xc penalties.
Managed to get home by about 11pm. Simba still feeling sorry for himself but the stiches are looking quite good so a quite couple of days for him. Sarnita is fine this morning not stiff at all so Sansaw for us again next.
