Well I have to say not the best week-end
frown.gif
but the main problem was not horse related. Arrived on Saturday and walked the course which wasn't overly big but had quite a few combiations and the odd tricky line. Walked it again after tea with the dogs (2 greyhounds and a lurcher) and the two greyhounds were playing collided heavily and Simba managed to have a gash in his side behind the shoulder about 3 inches long and quite deep. Typical greyhound was stood there screaming. Calmed him and got him back to the lorry. Eventually located a duty vet in Chepstow so having got appropriate instructuions for taking the lorry into town (it's now 9pm) we took him in and he had to be put out and stiched up. Over £200 worse off and with one sorry sore greyhound we got back to the event at gone 11pm.

Anyway next day dressage I thought was an improved test yet we got the worse mark for a while of 40

. Sjing seemed fairly small although I must admit I missed the course walk and it may have been an optical illusion with the long grass. She jumped a nice clear anyway.

Xc she gave me a good feel and powered round the course - but we had our first ever XC penalties at a tricky combination of rail short stride ditch another short stride narrow triple brush all on a slight left curve. Unfortunatly just as we were approaching another horse was passing us as the tracks were close at that point and I just did not get her between leg and hand enough and she just never locked on the triple brush and we went out the side. I don't think she realised she had run out as she didn't realise she was meant to jump it. This combination did cause quite a few problems even for the more experienced combinations.

Flew round the rest of the course confidently although one other nasty in the water where she left her stifles on the log in and lost momentum nearly causing me to fly over her head

. Luckily she put her head up and saved me a ducking! Flew over the last few combinations really well so generally pretty please although rather peed off with out xc penalties.

Managed to get home by about 11pm. Simba still feeling sorry for himself but the stiches are looking quite good so a quite couple of days for him. Sarnita is fine this morning not stiff at all so Sansaw for us again next.

Oh gosh poor Simba

that wouldnt have helped matters. Get well wishes to him.

You know Sanita wouldnt have run out on purpose, just one of those things, slight lack of concentration.

Its very hard when horses are passing you etc, i had the same problem yesterday too.

Glad to hear you are all home safe and sound, very long weekend *yawn* and at least it didnt rain

Your poor dog. Shame about the XC, but if it is her first ever faults and she is now at intermediate I think you can forget them

i hope your greyhound is ok, i know how pathetic they can be - i bet hes loving the attention tho (and is lapping up the sympathy!)

Well done for your day aswell x

Well done.

Poor Simba

Hope he recovers quickly.

Just been looking at Sarnitas record it is amaing! What a jumper! You should be really pleased, they have to really lock on to narrow fences and if they dont it can be so so easy to have a run out without them even realising there was a fence there!!!

Sounds like a good weekend though

What a stressful weekend. The whole visit to the vet episode sounds horrible!! At least he's ok now but when dogs scream it is the most terrible noise, just what you don't need at a time like that!
At least Sarnita was a good girl, and she thinks she went clear which is the most important thing.

Oh he is lapping it up. The main problem will be keeping him quiet in a couple of days so he doesn't damage his stiches. I'm afraid he is a bit accident prone!

She is a star and turns her hand to BSJA very well too. If I ever work out the dressage there will be no stopping her.

She certainly bounced off the lorry when she came home and seems very pleased with herself this morning. She probably just thought it was fast jump off turn as we went round to the alternative on a quick turn!

Well done, shame about the little blip. Sometimes those sorts of things can be a blessing in disguise for the long term. They act as a sharpner, which is always good before a big more important event! She is such a fab mare!

We used to have a grayhound, and they do rip easily

hope he mends soon!!

and as ElleJS said, your run out was prob. a blessing in disguise, a good sharpen up for Sansaw.

Poor doggie! Hope feeling better soon, I'm sure you could have done without the stress (and the vets bill).

Hubby did the same thing this spring (first XC pen in three years) and was v cross indeed, so know how you are feeling, but I suppose as you move up the levels these things happen occasionally. Better luck next time.
