Hi

I am taking my 6yo coloured cob to Chequer Tree Farm next Sunday for our first ever showing show.

We have done alot of unaff dressage, jumping etc in the past year, but have never shown.

We will be doing in hand classes only.

Is this a good venue for a first showing show? Is there anything I need to know?

We will be doing the show cob and coloured cob classes. I am thinking his hunter bridle for him, with a snaffle bit, although I will have to lead from the reins as I don't have a show lead thing. Is that ok?

For me I am thinking black jodphur boots, black trousers, cream shirt, blue tie, brown hacking jacket and black covered skull cap, with a black show cane. Is this ok?

I don't know about the show as I've never been but I'm assuming it's normal unaffiliated fun showing.
Your normal snaffle bridle is fine for inhand showing and it's perfectly ok to lead by the reins. You will be fine wearing your normal riding gear as well. At local level as long as you look clean and smart and you've made an effort you are fine. If you have brown gloves and a show cane bring them, if not, don't worry. I wouldn't be too bothered about getting new stuff - just make the best of what you already have for riding shows, get out there and have a good time!
 
Hi , I have been to Chequer Tree loads of times , its very low key and everyone is really friendy so im sure you'll have a great time.
Im not going this weekend or we would have been in the same classes :-)
oh top tip the ground is pretty uneven and running in hand can be a bit difficult so make sure whatever you wear on your feet has good grip.
 
Chequer Tree Farm is a super place to go for your first time out. Generally, everyone is very friendly, and although the judging can occasionally be a bit random, on the whole the judges are pretty good.

There is usually a photographer on site (who prints on the day as well as selling via a website), a small tack stall, some super cakes for sale and the obligatory burger van. Good toilet facilities, nice compact showground (you can see all the rings from the car park), and a great place to take a young horse, or for a novice rider / handler to have a go.
