I am potentially buying a P reg 2.5 Jeep Cherokee to tow my 16.3hh WB in a 510.

I have been told my someone that these cars are underpowered - does anyone tow with these cars and what do they find?

my friend has one of those and when she tows her 15.1hh connie/id cross in a lightweight aluminum trailer she says she is foot to the floor up hills.I have a 4lt grand cherokee and tow a 16hh id x tb plus a 13.3hh welsh in an aluminum trailer and i don't even know its there. Might be worth looking at a grand cherokee instead.

would agree that a 2.5 l might not be up to the job. We have the Grand Cherokee 4 litre (P Reg) and like Ottinmeg says we dont even know that the trailer (IW 505) with 15.2hh in is there.

I used to tow with a 2.5 TD landrover Disco and that was fine - towed 510 and 2 horses with it, okay not the fastest in the world but did the job. I need a car that I can run everyday so cant have a major gas guzzler.

I know that the newer Cherokee's are supposed to be ok to tow with. But I'm not sure about the older model.
I'm not sure if this is going to make any sense but I test drove the older Grand Cherokee model and I wouldn't have wanted to tow with it, you felt pretty sea sick driving it. However the new one is so much better and tows very well, so I suppose what I am trying to say is that their capabilities have improved greatly recently.

I have a P reg 2.5ltr Cherokee but its the petrol version (rare). I tried the deisel before buying this one and found it to be far too lacking in power. The petrol version is fine. Towed for 5 years with mine, often 2 horses and no problems at all. Will be sad to get rid of it (especially as they only fetch about £900 now) but have a lorry so dont need it.
