Cherry Eye - Tell me all please!

So Ruby has cherry eye, she's booked to have op to correct it on thursday but I'm all a bit doubtful as when I phoned to double check cost the vet said it doesn't have a very high success rate. Anyone had a dog with it and had the op? What happens if it's not treated and is there not a way to 'cure' it in this day and age? I want the best for Ruby of course but concerned I could shell out serious dollar and still be at square one

Success rate depends on how the cherry eye occurred. If it is because of construction it is less likely to be fixed than if it is due to trauma.
What is Ruby?

She's a basset hound, 2 1/2years old

Then surgery should have a good result.
Please note that artificial tears are much cheaper over the counter at a pharmacy than from the vet.( just tell them they are for you)
