Has anyone got any experience of this breed? (for working, but is still very much of the family) Temperament, trainabilty etc? And what health faults to look out for?
I believe they are quite wilful. Only experience I had was when my GSD was young and took him to dog training. At the same time there was a chesapeake, it didn't want to come back, selective deafness. However, some labs can be like that. Lovely dogs
Hi, i used to breed them with my ex wife Bainesfolly prefix , yes they are willfull but the secret of working them is to trust them to just get on and do the job and not try to point fingers and boss them about. They are bred to guard as well so be carefull! do have alot of health probs so make sure all eye tests and hips have been checked , i lost my boy to a condition which is becoming more common in the breed where the nerves go in the back end so the poor dog looses control of its back legs.
That was my OH above not me..... cheeky git keeps logging in as me!! I must remember to slap him hard when I get back from work!!
I only met my OH and saw Homer when he was getting bad with his back end, but my opinion was he was a lovely dog, and aside from the health problems OH said about above they are a really lovely loyal dogs!
Homer absolutely loved Martin and he was a stud dog so could be a bit agressive towards other enitre males he had a great personality and loved attention and was generally good with all the other dogs we had unless there was a bitch in season!!
Edited to add, PM if you like and OH might be able to recommend breeders in your area as he did do a lot of showing and knows the good and bad lines!!
