Chester news/results..?

There will be a report and partial results (not all of them were available) in this Thursday's magazine (8 July), followed by the results that we have going up on the website.

Hope that helps!

It was a super show, well attended by competitors and spectators. Gave an all too rare chance to see most of GB's current leading riders in action at top level i.e. as HOYS used to do many years ago. While Scope is excellent it cannot be expected to offer CSI3* level classes. Bob Ellis was the course designer, and as usual did a fine job. I was only able to watch the main ring classes (there were 4 arenas). I was particularly impressed by the performance of John Whitaker on Argento. It was the first time I've seen him in the flesh and he made eveything look easy - he's still not been pushed against the clock. The Foxhunter 2nd Round had only one treble clear: Greg Taylor with a nice chestnut stallion called Dutchman. Friday's 1.40 speed class had 49 starters and of course a lot were just treating it up as a warm-up. Paul Barker won it with Temple Ryefield from Nick Motmans with Vivs Diamond. The first qualifier for the Masters (1.55m) had 65 starters 14 of who went clear. The j/o was won by Michael Whitaker with Amai, just ahead of Robert Whitaker on Casino, Joe Whitaker with Kool Kaiser and Guy Williams with Torinto. Geoff Billington won Saturday's Accumulator with Quite Cadiz, with Argento taking 2nd, and Paul Barker with Temple Bonte Lola 3rd. There were 66 starters in the 2nd Masters qualifier and 21 went clear. Scott Brash won it with Bon Ami from the last draw, just as Robert Whitaker looked to have got it won with Casino (he jumped the less experienced Rooney in the Final in which riders could only ride one horse). Shane Breen took 3rd with World Cruise (lovely to see him back after a long lay-off through injury) and Argento was 4th. 75 started in the 2nd 1.30m GP qualifier, a 2-phase won by Jo McGlory with the nice little grey Camielo. Sunday's 1.30m GP had 35 starters and there were 12 in the j/o. It was won bt the in-form Lance Whitehouse with Winde from Ellen Whitaker with the veteran and still enthusiastic Kanselier, with her youngest brother, Donald taking 3rd with Helix. The class for the horses not starting in the GP was contested by 60. It was faults and time and was won by Guy Williams with Dukhan from Geoff Luckett with Sally and Alexander Butler with Keeford Topcat. The GP had 39 starters (I think Mark Armstrong didn't start Thesaura as they are off to Falsterbo on our Super League team this week). The time was tight so 3 on 1 time fault plus the fastest 4 faulter joined the 5 clears. Michael must have rued his penalty for being 0.40 over the time, going clear in the j/o whereas Geoff Billington with Uppercut, just missed out on making the j/o having had the 2nd fence down but giving a lesson in how to avoid time faults wityhout taking unnecessary risks. Scott Brash and Intertoy had misguidedly been given long odds by the bookies (I wished I'd had a bet on him) and went brilliantly without seeming hurried, whereas Guy with Torinto looked to pull out all the stops but finished 0.19 in arrears.
Saturday and Sunday also featured Pony European Trial classes but there were only 18 starters. The speed class went to Laura Pritchard on Baussy Jones, with Lara Whiteway on ABC Juri 2nd. The jump-off class was won by Jessica Mendoza and Tixylyx with Amy Ingls in 2nd.

Happy to help! Forgot to mention that Rob Hoekstra was there watching throughout and he did an interview before the GP saying they've got a good team spirit going and are not complacent about doing what's needed to stay up in the Super League. He was pleased to see a true international track and mentioned that he had already chosen Scott for the Aachen team.
