Ok...maybe not "MURDER" but acted like a loon!

Chester , who has been WONDERFUL for so long now and not been pulling ANY conflict whatsoever, reared up and attempted to throw me yesterday right upon mounting!

He has given pathetic attemts at bucking in the past, but we have worked through all of that and thought his testing point was worked through.

Rearing up he has never done

it was not a serious "High O Silver" rear, but enough to make me feel nervous and hop off for more groundwork
(perhaps should have stayed mounted and worked through it , but oh well...used my best instincts)
When we began ground work (still in full tack)

he BUCKED AND BUCKED like a rodeo bronc!

He was half crazed!

He calmed down enough to be ridden and I did allow Cajla to ride him (only in the round pen) but I have to say it was unusual behavior for him

I checked all of his tack and the only difference was that I had let the bridle out one notch as it seemed to be getting tight on him. Could that have been all it took?
Also...it was my first attempt to ride him in the new round pen. That was another change , but not one that I would think would cause a crazy day! He has been worked from the ground in there many times now very well behaved

I am making it all out to just be an "off day" like we all have

but I truly hope he has very few more!

Really don't know, does sound as if his tack was hurting him. Is it possible a fold of fabric or leather got trapped, or a fold of skin in the girth? Don't think the notch on the bridle would do it, unless it changed where the bit was lying in the mouth so it came up against something sore, like a wolf tooth.

I would go down the 'teeth , back, tack road! Have you changed his feed or taken away his best buddy? What strange behaviour, I dont blame you for getting off-I am terrified of rearers and wont even get on!

. Poor boy, hes prob got a very good reason, its down to us (rider) to suss out what it is. Good luck, Mairi.x

It did change where the bit fell (I assume) but I doubt it was sore. His wolf teeth have been removed. It could have gone to a new position in his mouth that made his feel as though HE had more control?

Doubt it was a fold of skin or a pinch...I checked it all. I suppose I could have missed something. I will see how he acts today
