So my chestnut mare is a very bright gingery colour. The base of her mane and top of her tail are this colour too, but gradually up her mane there are blondely bits and her forlock is what I would call 'flaxen' and the bottom and back of her tail are very dark to black (not mud I promise :p )

And her mane is half straight and half curly!

is she chestnut? Flaxen? Help :D

My cob is like this! Dark chestnut and mane is flaxen (i think!) tail has strands of black and silver in and very dark at bottom!
:) mane and tail also wavy!

Haha, my cob looks a bit funny anyway bless her! Odd how some horses have really strange colourings., sorry cant be of more use. Their funny wavey manes and tails must have a fancy names but i dont know them :)

Chestnut can be very light, right through orange to very dark (looks pretty much black). You can get different shades of chestnut on the same horse and the mane and tail seem to be the commonest areas for this to happen.

Your mare doesn't look flaxen to me as that gives a yellowy or even cream colour to the mane and tail (sometimes it's more pronounced in the mane).

I love the waves. :D Lets hope that she doesn't put hair straighteners on her Xmas list. :p

My QH mare is chestnut roan. She has quite a blond mane with lots of white, orange and black hairs mixed in. She also has Bend'or spots (sp?) So I call her my closet appaloosa! :)

Love your mare's waves, beautiful!

ohh thank you Faracat! I didn't think she was because I've never seen a flaxen that's not fully flaxen but people have been telling me so I thought I'd see what the gurus on here had to say ;)
The wavy bit is the funniest thing because she only gets lighter in the straight part! I like it, very unique and I could always spot her in a crowd :D how's your ginger horse doing??

I have baby photos! :D

A poster on here recognised him, they had visited when he was only a few days old and very kindly they sent me the photos that they took of him.

Look - same ponio. :)

Chestnut mare is being naughty though. She's decided that she doesn't want to eat her hard feeds any more. I'm having to tempt her with grated carrot mixed into it. *sigh*

It's quite possible that you are correct and she's just tricking me into giving her carrots which are normally a very rare treat.

Take it as a stark warning - your mare will soon have you doing her bidding too. ;)

what do you mean will do soon? She's got herself a nice little slave as it is :D and my Dad has started to like her too and he's more generous with the sweeties!
