So, I recently purchased a cheval liberte tourer with the locker and my very willing gelding seems to be finding the space difficult? He's 16hh but short coupled, not particularly wide. There just doesnt seem to be enough space in the front of the trailer for him + net. This has resulted in him backing out to the point where i stopped asking him to try today (he really was trying, there was no tantrum and he'd stop as soon as there was any pressure on the lead rope, he also loaded straight into a friends larger trailer). Just curious if anyones found themselves with a trailer with the tack locker and then removed it? Checked with Cheval and they said it has no structural value to the trailer.

Long story short has anyone had one of these trailers and removed the tack locker? And if you have could it be put back? The trailer is a stopgap between nothing and a 3.5T so hoping to put the locker back in once its no longer in use to sell.

I can understand as there isn’t a lot of room in front with the locker there. We’ve not removed ours but I don’t see why you couldn’t?

In answer to my own question in case anyone else finds themselves in the same shoes, it is definitely removable and quite easy! We've now stored the frame away and have put the saddle rack as high as possible to tie his net and bailing twine to. Temporary fix for the net but removing the locker also removed the tieing points so make do for now!

I had mine serviced today and the CL guy said yes absolutely fine to take the lockers out.

He also said the new XL version has a lot more room so definitely worth considering for anyone with horses 16hh plus!

This thread has been very useful, thanks. I’m hoping to get a CL Tourer and thought I might be able to get away with the smaller one as it’s bigger than a 505, which Wiggy just about fits onto but smaller than the 510 which he’s more than comfy on but this has made me realise the dimensions don’t include the tack locker so I’ll almost certainly need the bigger one.

Yep it’s tight at the front with the locker there, not a lot of space for headroom and haynets. I’d definitely get a XL if I was buying for anything bigger than 16hh. We have ponies in ours so the regular tourer is perfect but it’s tight for anything over 15/15.2

Sorry to bring up this months old thread, but I was relieved to find this! @Tansibel, do you mind sharing a photo of your new setup? About to put my mechanic husband to work 😝

It's my first one over on this side of the pond and I do like the trailer, it pulls really well. But I might end up selling it and trying a different one because my horse is totally crammed up front and he's starting to get irritable 🙈

I have one and ive had the door of the tack room removed as it was annoying having to open the side door every time i wanted to get something out. Its also opened up the front space. It cost £25 to do it and is really easy to put back on
