In case anyone's been buying from Zooplus, specifically Barkoo products:

The Finnish article mentions that there have been neurological symptoms associated with chews from other companies (namely Hau Hau) who were sourcing from the same Chinese supplier as Barkoo. Neurological symptoms have also been associated with products from Chrisco, and I wouldn't be surprised if more companies end up getting linked to this supplier/factory and syndrome. Apparently, because the chews were being processed in Europe itself, and it was just the meat that was getting sourced from China, these products were being sold as European.

The current (still being tested) theory seems to be that mycotoxins are causing the syndrome.

This is concerning.
I bought Barkoo filled dog chews 2 years ago from zooplus for my 2 dogs. One was elderly at the time, but with great teeth and loved a chew. I didnt want thick raw hide for them so went for the thinner hide filled chews.
They didn’t go mad at them eating them in 1 session like smaller rawhide chews, as they had fairly substantial fillings.

Around that time the chews were circulating, the elderly one suddenly had fits, which we put down to his old age, and immediately drove to vets literally at 1am, who then due to the other factors, and my insistence due to the horrid continual fitting PTS. He had become rapidly immobile that day, rather than a slow decline of health as expected. We accepted it as sudden old age neuro fitting symptoms.

The other dog would run off and hide her chews in the forest/around the land, so she didn’t chew much of what we gave her in 1 sitting. She had some strange episodes of skin/muscle twitching, which i filmed, and her gait became ‘lazy’ on 1 back leg. She also developed a skin irritation on her belly alongside the other symptoms, which she was yelping out as she bit at herself. It was a really strange cluster of symptoms. An out of the blue episode which the vet treated for, and she recovered. This was when the chews were around.

Luckily for her, her chews she had hidden out in the wilderness of the valley were mostly stolen by wild animals…foxes, pine martens, badgers…unluckily possibly for them though.

I didn’t buy the chews again for my remaining bitch dog due to the relative disinterest in them, compared to other non-chew treats.

There’s no knowing of course if the Barkoo chews as reported in the above links, were responsible for these sudden health episodes in my dogs. Especially the older one with health issues attributable with his age. The younger active healthy bitch was the real shock at the time, as she like dogs do, had her nose into everything out in these hills…bringing back deer legs she found, rolling in fox poop! Etc…I put her episodes down to exposure of something native here, despite her always being exposed to everything for years prior with no serious issues.
Yet the concern is, these sudden neuro episodes happened the one and only time those chews were circulating in the house.

Anybody that feeds that sort of rubbish to their dogs needs to check where it was manufactured.

Tip: check where Good Boy treats and Thrive treats are manufactured before you buy them. Manufactured, not packed.

Remember this from a few years ago?

What's wrong with Good Boy?

I've rushed to check the packaging I have ans there's no mention of where it's manufactured other than made my Pawsley ltd in Nottingham. That's on a couple of chews and bag of pigs ears. One of the chicken chews also has a German address but not mention of where its made.

What am I missing?

Thing might have changed since the company was sold. You could ask them for the country of origin of their dog treats.

I've got chicken and duck strips, filled bones and pig ears. What is rubbish about them? Not being facetious, to me they seem fine because they are one ingredient type things.
