I have just read an article on the benefits of chia seeds for horses. With 4 horses who compete regularly I have always fed linseed, Alfa a oil and speedi beet. They live out all year round and it has always worked well. Not seen the weight gain benefits as so many suggest but I stick with it. I have now heard about chia and would like to hear people's thoughts.
Would I feed it with linseed or replace it?
Where can I buy it from?
How much do they have a day?
Thanks

I know nothing about horses and chia seeds but I do know that people are advised to have a VERY limited amount per day. It is very expensive and I wouldn't bother with it if I were you. Could you increase the amount of linseed that you feed? (Or is that a silly question?)

ETA, I find that soaked grassnuts with chaff and Speedibeet puts weight on well.

Micronised linseed is cheaper and according to recent research, does the same thing...up to you..I would also add a good balancer like topspec or tens daily, plus a tbs of salt once a day to their feed, esp if they are competing.
