5 month old lab pup just ate his first raw chicken wing (OH gave it to him) Chewed one end for aaaaages, then suddenly swallowed the whole thing! I'm panicking slightly (can you tell this is my first dog) will it pass through him ok? Just seems a lot for him to digest!

Thanks

Inexperienced dogs tend to swallow without chewing adequately. If the stomach cannot deal with it, they simply sick it up. Do not worry but next time try holding one end of the wing until he has chewed all the way up it. He will soon learn.

Bash it up a bit by covering in a clean tea towel and having at it with the rolling pin next time. He'll be fine. Stick to the same meat for a week then introduce a new one. Read the raw stickies. :)

My pup did this to begin with. I gave her and our housemates dog one wing each and in the time it took him to lick it and decide that KFC was better (housemates do genuinely feed their dog the remains of their KFC..but they wont be told) She'd swallowed hers, and stolen his. I was a bit scared after that to feed wings, and i gave her a carcass to try and teach her that she didnt need to inhale it. That worked and shes chewed wings since.
I think initially its a novelty for them, as ours had been weaned onto dry food and we only started feeding her bits of raw stuff at about 10 or so weeks. They soon get used to it!
