Has anybody got the dreaded chilblains yet?

My poor toes feel like they are dying and I keep finding myself scratching my thighs and bum most inappropriately whilst food shopping. :D. They got so bad last night I had to turn the heating off, wear shorts to keep my legs cool and put 3 jumpers on the top half of my body to stop me catching pneumonia!

Any suggestions guys other than (as my doctor told me) wear warmer clothes, stay dry etc. Do all the above, have worn chaps/over trousers, tights, thick socks etc in the past, nothing seems to work.

Currently using snow fire, stops itching and burning for half hour but then it's back again.

Do you smoke? When I gave up smoking my chilblains improved dramatically. Makes sure your clothes, socks and boots dont rub that aggravates mine. I use Eurax cream to relieve itching seems to last a while. If my feet get too hot I also get them.

Ski trousers and snow boots! I raided Aldi for mine last year and for less than £40 I had a very warm winter.
Make sure your boots have thick soles and space for toes to wriggle, if you pack them too tight with loads of socks again the blood can't circulate. Don't wear tights, they tend to constrict the flow of blood to the surface, especially on toe ends! I bought some ski socks when I went skiing which were designed to generate heat or something, I was sceptical that 1 pair of socks would keep my toes warm but they worked! They were about £15 a pair but I got them on 3 for 2 and it's something I would buy again.
Final piece of advice which isn't always easy is keep moving as much as possible. If you need to stop for a while make sure you go inside to a properly heated space.

I always wear two layers - and find over-trousers brilliant for keeping me at the right termperature. It's also really important not to get wet.

This might sound totally stupid BUT I got chilblains a couple of years ago but did not no it on my leg, at that time I had a few horses with ringworm at work so just thought it was that I had passed to myself, so started putting caniston thrush creme on it ( that's what we was treating horses with btw lol) and it stopped the itching did not really make it go away but did not get really bad and no itching I went to docs who said he did not think the caniston would help as its a chillblain so I stopped useing it next year it was really bad so used it again and ever since works a treat on me :)

with the regards to the itching, have you tried Aveeno? I had never heard of it, but then started to itch constantly due to morphine. they sell it in tesco, behind the pharmacy and it comes in lotions, shower gel and bath oil.

Buy yourself a good pair of ski socks. I tried this years ago after getting chilblains from many cold days at the yard. They can cost a lot but worth it!

Years ago I used to get very bad chilblains every year, nothing would help and it drove me insane. Then my doctor told me of a very good home remedy (which I am sure a lot of people have used but wont admit to :D)

Never had a chilblain since :)

Great stuff. And easily bought from Boots.

You WEED on your chillblains?!!!!!! (sorry I had to google it to find out and I'm glad I'd finished my lunch before I did)

Rather than wee on your toes, I found a cream called Antipeol/st James balm from a company called sestri sales. It contains urea and aspirin and is total an utter bliss smeared all over my poor poor chilblany toes.
