Hi
We are starting a share agreement on two ponies for my daughters age 8 and 5 (two days a week at a private livery yard)
It is our first time sharing, can anyone advise what insurance they/ I need please? I have looked at specific Rider Insurance (previously they have only ridden in BHS approved Riding schools so we haven't needed it) but also at the BHS Gold membership - I think they need 3rd Party liability or would I need this as the responsible adult? any advice gratefully received!
TIA
Lu

The owner needs to insure the ponies, you just need rider insurance if that's something you want. I'm not sure if they cover children or not though!

Only the owner needs 3P - liability cannnot attach to the sharer. The only reason to have rider insurance is to cover for injury, time off work / school etc. You can get it for children - I used to insist on it when I was sharing out a PC Competition pony (now retired). It limits the owner's liability on injury if the child is at a fee paying school. As a sharer rather than an owner - no requirement to take out any insurance at all. If there is an injury etc. you can claim from the owner. But for an owner - always worth insisting on rider insurance to lessen the risk.
