Can anyone suggest a calming supplement that will just take the edge off my mare when out hacking? She's always much fizzier when hacking on her own, & since i've had to hack out on my own a lot more often now, it's not being too fun not being able to relax because every 5 mins she's shooting in one direction or another because of parked cars/sticks/mud etc. & if there's nothing there to spook at, she'll invent something! :P Her mind seems to be in action all the time! In OVERLOAD!

Only trouble is, she's good to school/jump, and even had to give her some comp mix a couple of months ago to give her a bit more energy as she can sometimes be lazy. So don't really want her lazier in the school!

Does anyone know of anything that will just help her chill out but not affect energy etc? Something that will sort of, kick in when she needs it? Is that even possible?!..

I'm hoping by summer time, she'll be able to calm herself down on her own. She's deffo a lot worse in winter.

Not sure if that's possible unless you get the shot/paste ones you give before you do stuff but doubt you'd want to do that everytime you want to hack. My mare used to be on Equine Americas Magnitude which nocked the edge off her and if a whole of a scoop is to much then you can just use a bit less. It's £15.99 for a 6months supply and if you only use half a scoop a day that's £15.99 for 12 months.. bargain!

Ohhh cool, i take it that's magnesium based?

Think magnesiums might be the way to go!

Hows your Misty-like ponio? :P

According to my vets unless it's got magnesium in it it's not worth giving, especially for a mare.
She's good thanks you, rode her tonight and she had to play the role of sensible pony by leading over jumps, she's not used to being the sesible one

How's Misty, recovered from her recent frolock along the road?

Cattie that's good! Did she behave? :P
Well, not noticed it before but did her girth up today and she stamped her foot? So i thought that was a bit odd. But her excitement etc out on her hack didn't point in the direction of bad back. She wasn't bucking or anything, just being usual mistypoo. Anyhoo got back and took saddle off. Chucked her stable rug in and her back legs went under about a foot! So took it off and felt along her back and she really dipped.
Cousin thinks she's pulled something after acting like a loon. She's hyper-sensitive anyway so don't think it should be anything to serious. Gonna give her some bute tomorrow and walk her out Saturday so she works long and low. We shall see!

I must admit, i had a moment of "THATS IT, I'M SELLING YOU AND GETTING ANOTHER" today when she had a fit at some sandbags! Went home and cried to mum that Misty stresses me out and she's not exactly being the nicest pony to ride atm..went to work and by the time i got home i'd seen sense:P

Glad you've seen sense, where would we be without our silly grey connies?
Hope her back is better after a bute, she may just be feeling a bit sensitive after all her recent excitement and activity.

Yes she was good for a change, i was riding her in a hackmore with the flood lights on expecting trouble but she was great and a real pro nanny over the little jumps with naughty pony in tow

Have tried loads both on their own and sometimes together for tense dressage horse

Supercalm , Valerian ,So Kalm ,Oxyshot,Tempralax, Tranquil Magic .Karma , nothing happened. Have spent a fortune have a cupboard full of them . The only thing that worked was riding horse in twice taking our time. getting out loads especially to small events at start of season and Nupafeed syringes which are fab, arrive quickly and staff v helpul
