i was wondering if anyone could tell me the symptoms for chills in horses? ive been trolling the internet for ages and cant find a thing.

the reason im asking is im worried my horse might have one, its the only thing i can really think of thats wrong with him. The other night (5th nov) i left him without a rug (hes stabled) but i didnt realise how cold it was going to be. Although he has a long coat, its not thick as he is a thoroughbred but the day before he had been standing sweating without a rug. the next day he was very lethargic and cold to the touch and had a bit of a runny nose as well as loose droppings (only a few). the day after this he was perkier but still very lethargic but had no runny nose and wasnt cold and his droppings were normal.

anyone have any ideas? hes still not himself. :(

He could have a virus the symptoms are often as you describe, a little dull, runny nose, he may of had a temperature which was why he was hot then cold and leaving him without a rug just made him feel chilly. Just the same really as a human cold, give him a few days off, dampen his hay so it does not irritate his throat, which may be sore.
It is probably too late to take his temperature as he is most likely on the mend now but if he is still poorly take it and keep monitoring him, if he does not look brighter get the vet, but if only a virus it will run its course in a few more days.

that makes sense actually thanks. he has the vet on monday for a check up on an injury so if he can hold out ill say to the vet then, if not its another bill for me! hopefully its just a passing thing, hes been through enough bless him. thanks again!
