I have posted this in the dog section,but havent had a reply,so thought i would post it in here.
We are going to get a puppy.
Ideally a small/toy breed(lap dog!)
I have been looking at the chinese crested,and was wondering if anyone has one,and if anyone knows anything about them.I know the hairless ones can suffer from bad teeth,and they can also suffer from their kness popping out
 
I don't know all that much about them, but I used to know a lady with a lot of them. They're a lovely little dog, quite active, not got any nastiness in them at all.
I don't really like little dogs as I think the smaller, the yappier, however the chinese crested's she had never seemed to yap.

I have to say that i don't know much about them, but my friend has one, and he is so gorgeous, has gorgeous coat and has a great character.
 
They can be quite nervy if they're not socialised well when they're young but are fab when they're confident!
 
annret, it doesn't matter on the breed of dog, any dog can be nervy when not socialised. Such as my border collie rescue who still won't come near me, we've had her about a year!

I'm not silly, of course I know that. They just tend to be more naturally timid, the way labs tend to be more naturally outgoing.
 
I think they're lovely affectionate dogs, have never personally owned one (although would like one.) I do a lot of dog shows and their was one CC puppy in this ladies arms being held like a baby fast asleep and my heart melted, was very sweat.
From what i've seen of them i think they're great dogs and have never heard anyone with a bad word to say about them.

a little girl called lou lou.
They are naturally timid dogs but if you expose them to lots of new things when they are young they will soon find there feet and turn out to be lovely little dogs.
They can be pretty stubbon so training is essential.
 
Give me the puffball of the litter rather than the hairless any day! Their skins need protection from the sun and they need oiling regularly. seriously!
 
I have a 7 year old hairless bitch who has qualified for Crufts for life after attending her stud book number.
She is a sweetheart, and I wouldn't change her for the world, however they can be very nervous of strange people if not kept up with seeing people when small and also other animals.
They do suffer with there teeth if not cared for.
They darker the pigment on their skin the less problems in the summer.
However with the hairless you will have to trim them every few weeks as the do have bum fluff type hair come over there skin.
She is not yappy at all, the only time she barks is when there is strangers in the house all someone is at the door.

i later sold him as a stud dog i think hes in wales now, he had very quality breeding came from Vanitonia

PP's are less work, well mines is, my boy Zino had to have his little back shaved or he got a spiky punk just down the centre of his back

I was just trying to be helpful so please don't patronise me!
 
I agree on the timid front - its a trait of the breed - mine was the runt so think its come out more, but its manageable now i know and understand him, timid CC's just take more time to get to know people than say a Lab who will instantly be your friend no questions asked. I wish i'd been more aware as i wouldve tried harder when he was tiny to help him get over it - although i did expose him to many social interactions but its very tough when a pup is so timid to change their personality.

They call CC's the hot water bottle dogs and its so true, they are so warm, although do require some coats etc in winter for going out!!

CC's are the best dogs ever, wouldnt swap mine for the world whether he is timid or not.
He was SO easy to train, toilet and commands, and is so well behaved. He's not a yappy little dog - although he does have a bark on him - they are natural watch dogs.

Infact I am getting a bitch soon as my dogs breeder has just had a litter. Im not sure I could have any other type of dog now, there are so low maintenance - mine is anyway. He is dark skinned so the sun is never really an issue, and bathing / oiling such a tiny animal only take 15 mins. Im lukcy mine doesnt really have much 'bum fluff' and as i dont show him it doesnt matter to me anyway.

I just love the fact my CC is so relaxed and versatile - he is 'lap dog', yet will come running with me or for a long walk, and bounces around the stables quite happily too, and doesnt mind laying on the sofa for the afternoon if i want to leave him home. he - and the others i have met - seem to be very laid back 'easy' breeds to own, in the respect they dont need hours&hours of walking everday, wont bounce around all over people, and will happily laze about on rainy days rather than go for a walk! which is all ideal for me as my dogs come to work with me.

Oh P.S if you get a hairless when they are young they often get 'acne' type spots, like a teenage phase they go through and grow out of.
