Done! Found one last year floating near my hay barn - terriyifing thought as to what could have happened if I had not been in the yard.

Done. I would normally support as much public freedom as possible, but using these things seems so irresponsible to me.

Just got my BHS mag today with the usual junk mail included init and there was a catalogue with an advert for these inside!

It was the junk mail which gets slotted into the mag, from the sound of it. The BHS might not have any say in that.

I've signed it, My mare had a full colic surgery including resection while she was in foal, because of a small piece of wire.... most probably from one of these things.

We have just filled it in.
Found one in the field today (with wire in it) when moving the horses.

Just wanted to share an update from a friend:
She's been in direct contact with Midlands COOP with regards to the sale of Chinese lanterns and their potentially devastating consequences. The good news is that they have agreed that once they have sold their current stock they will no longer stock or sell them.
Please, please, please contact local suppliers and make them aware of the dangers. If dealt with maturely with a reasoned approach then you may very well receive a similar response.
I would also urge you to contact your regional COOP as if one is prepared to change then hopefully others will follow suit.
