Yes mine did it as a 3yo, and the bone chip was in the cruciate. Sven Kold removed it under arthroscopy and he had a course of adequan. Took a year to be sound but never troubled him again.
Yes a horse I once owned received a kick injury. I saw it happen. He brought his leg right up under him and he couldn't put it to the ground straight after the kick. He was treated for the cut but not x-rayed straight away. When he was x-rayed they found a small bone chip. Sometimes bone chips get reabsorbed without intervention, but my boy remained severely lame and ended up at Rossdales, where the chip was removed and the stifle joint flushed of infection.
This was successful, but he still needed many months of rehabilitation, and I ended up having to move him to a rehabilitation yard with a horse walker as he was too hot to walk in-hand. They did wonders for him and he did recover in the end, but the stress and expense really did my head in at the tme.
Not stifle, but my boy chipped a bone in his hock. Had arthroscopic surgery and a course of adequan and steroids and is doing well (see my pictures in the gallery for proof).
my horse chipped the bone just below his stifle, from a kick in the field. he took about 3 months to be reabsorbed, he was sound the whole time just looked stiff if u knew what to look for. he was on box/a 20ft x 20ft pen rest for the whole 3 months and hes healed perfectly
