As above really my mare has had a kick to her front leg and a small cut on her cannon bone wouldnt heal up despite penicillin jabs, took her over for a scan and x-rays she has a small chip of bone in there, I've to take her back Sunday and she will have surgery Monday.

Any experiences of this? Tips, how long to heal, recovery plans etc etc grately appreciated.

My mare had a bone chip removed from her fetlock. Involved a general anaesthetic and was keyhole surgery that removed it. 2 stitches and a bandage for a few days. Healed almost straight away and you wouldnt know now where the incisions were. Had to keep bandage on until stitches were removed then a day or so later when holes had closed.

Ditto izzwizz...my boy ruptured his suspensory & due to location also chipped a bit of bone off the sesamoid bone!

Keyhole surgery, tiny incisions on either side of the base of the suspensory, bandaged for a couple of days, stitches removed then slow road bringing him back into work. But several months down the line you wouldn't know anything had happened.

My pony had keyhole as well to remove a bone chip from his fetlock that was last september and by the 1st of jan this year he was back jumping, though then took it easy for a few months hacking.

He was on box rest for two weeks till the stitches came out, then a few more days, he was then allowed out in a small paddock for a couple of weeks for a few hours a day. Then started walking inhand, then under saddle etc.

You'd never know it had happened now though.

Also as yours is the cannon bone there isnt joint invlvement like there was in the cases posted above so the prognosis for yours is even better.
