Has anybody used a chiropractor for dogs? I noticed that one of my GSD's hips is lower than the other and he does take the odd lame step and I wondered if a chiro could help?
My concern is of course that it's arthritis that's causing the lameness and a chiro would possibly make it worse.

The dog is being seen by a vet on a regular basis so am fairly certain it's not a major hip problem but he is about 11.

He is on Joint Aid and has a Back on Track bed and is generally fairly supple.

You can indeed. Is there a greyhound racing community in your area? I know people who take their working GSDs to 'greyhound twisters' and highly rate them.

Have his hips ever been properly x-rayed? It's the only way to be sure if there is a problem or not. Although at 11 perhaps that ship has sailed and if he is supple then I wouldn't worry too much.

You could also query a back injury, my dog was carrying his leg funny for a few weeks but the x-ray revealed he had actually tweaked his lumbosacral and was fine after a course of anti inflammatories.

I do know someone with a young female who takes occasional lameness and it has been identified as a deep muscle injury, after a quick massage she is back to hooning around again :p

I have used a McTimoney Chiropractor for Tojo.He had growth rate problems and was very wobbly at 8 months and we thought we were going to lose him. He came right after about 6 treatments. He has had chiro since for muscle problems too.

I was advised to go for McTimoney rather than standard chiropracty as it is gentler on the dog.

Not sure where you are but my chiro is in Newbury.

thanks a lot for the advice.
Horses were due anyway so have booked my horsey chiro for everyone next week.
Will be interesting to see how it goes....

Update: had him done last week and he's MUCH better! Bouncing about like an 11 months old puppy rather than the 11 years he is!!
Lovely to see him like that!!
