With these, it’s usually whoever you find who suits you and your horses best. I used to use both an osteo and a physio, whose work complemented each other.
Since finding my genius vet chiropractor (an experienced equine vet who additionally trained as a chiropractor ) I just use her. I do not need to use another body worker as she brings everything to the table.
I’ve used both this year. My horse physio is my human physio also and she’s amazing and trust her completely (trained in equine physio after she trained to do humans.)
I’ve also had a McTimmoney practitioner chiro out and I really rated him.
The first time he saw Tali her hips were so out he couldn’t get them straightened in one session. He could only return in 6 months time (live on an island and he travels up) so had my physio out in that time and Tali was really tight all over so needed that too. Physio recommended getting the chiro out again so did that and he managed to straighten her hips the second time.
I would use both if I think they need it. They do different things. The physio couldn’t straighten her hips and the chiro doesn’t do the soft tissue work she needed but they were both invaluable to me and were on the same page with what I needed to work on with her. And that was their individual views, they hadn’t spoken to each other.
I love my physio. I won't do "back person" or "bodyworker" or anyone unqualified no matter how many people tell me they're magic. There is an extremely qualified vet-chiro locally who I would use if she wasn't so busy and so eye-wateringly expensive.
I have used both, my chiro is actually a fully qualified vet as well which works really well. I have found a lot of people here refer to a bodyworker or massage therapist incorrectly as a physio which annoys me, our local vet physio liases well with our vets which is very reassuring.
When my Appy starts to look like her pelvis has tipped to one side a chiro appointment works best - but I can only use the one who does some massage work first or adjustments don't hold.
Generally I use physio or massage work because I find loosening tight muscles tends to straighten them up anyway.
