chit chat and tack facebook page

Did anyone see the one earlier about a horse bolting/shivering/sweating and the owner couldn't afford a vet?!
Horse ended up being PTS a few hours later although I don't know the ins and outs. I'm on it purely for the ****s and giggles but I have gasped a few times.

I briefly saw that this morning but my phone wouldn't let me read the comments, it sounded very much like a large colon torsion to me ( they can literally bounce off the walls in pain ) and to be fair im not surprised it was pts, i wouldn't have been surprised if it had already ruptured as the time window in large colon irreparable damage is soo short.

Other than the stupid posts ( there was also one this morning about a woman keeping a Shetland stallion in her council house garden and was miffed that someone had reported her and the council told her to remove it or be evicted ) is when people put posts on of horses for sale / loan with no contact details other than private message and don't bother to reply to them, the post then disappears and you then cant find it.

when the admins went to your horse live n they told everyone take photos of them if they saw them and post them.
Seriously?
They must have nowt better to do than lord it up on facebook
obviously on a power trip

I'm a member on it but mainly for the auctions, I've sold a lot & got some fab bargains too!

I find myself sitting on my hands - a lot! Some people on there I just want to give a good shake/slap to, usually the Turmeric lovers (sorry but I'm sick to death of hearing about it's miraculous properties) & also those that post on threads regarding loose horses that have been found saying "if you haven't found it's owner within the hour then I'll have it". The amount of 'rescues' on there is ridiculous!

There's a hilarious row been going on over an ad for a 14.2 mare. :D Seller has something of an attitude. :D

would suit novice like i was when i got her. :wink3:

Never schooled or jumped her just well ridden :confused3:

NO FAMILY TRIPS OUT FOR A RIDE UP THE LANE & BACK & WASTE MY TIME. :D

TBH I am a viewer on there. The lady with a council house was actually just moving a pony temporarily from the flooding so she says . I buy stuff from there, have just bought some brilliant hi viz chaps etc . I do struggle sometimes with the text talk

Came back from reading it and found this thread.

It's about as bad as it gets. Unbelievable stupidity is rife and many posts are unreadable due to text speak, spelling and grammar.

If I read of one more 'teathered' horse I might well implode.

But, as someone else said, there are some bargains to be had... especially if you want a pink and purple bridle...

I think it's full of rough folk! And people with no brains! I have since removed myself from the group!

I'm never sure what people mean by "rough folk". :eek3:

To me saying things like that just makes a person look snobby and narrow-minded. I don't think the "us and them" attitude helps anyone. I don't care about anyone's class or home background, but I can't say that page appeals to me for other reasons.

I still think one of the most memorable questions was the woman asking where she could buy 'ad lib' haylage ...... and what was it that made it different from 'normal' haylage!!!!!

I call it Twit, Tw*t and Cr*p. :)

I don't use it but I keep seeing all the younger girls at my yard (ages 13-16) using it. Maybe it's a younger person's/teenage thing?

I have clicked on some of the posts they've commented on and read the tripe that's posted on there by others but I just leave them to it.

Just seen a screamer! Someone asking which oil to use in their horses feed.

Someone has obviously suggested cod liver oil at some point and another poster has said:

"I don't know why you'd want to use a fish product as it is not in a horses natural diet!" Then goes on to suggest coconut oil...

Yes, because my horse naturally goes round seeking out coconuts in the field to have a good munch on!

Just proper Laughed at this.. Love it!!!

I do feel uncomfortable about people having a good laugh at others' mistakes. :(

If someone asks a daft question, surely that just shows they're a complete novice? At least they're asking for help! We all have to start somewhere, not everyone was brought up with horses and has the advantage of a horsey background. Mocking them only makes others less inclined to ask "daft" questions in case they're ridiculed too.

The people who concern me are those who consider themselves experts and give out incorrect or dangerous advice to others. Complete beginners asking for help should surely be encouraged to do so?

Even though I have contributed I do agree with this - but it's the stupid and, as you have pointed out, sometimes dangerous replies that are cringe worthy. Nothing against beginners asking "numpty" questions. You have to learn somewhere!

Im not knocking the novices for asking, I believe in asking a question no matter how silly it might be but its the replies they get that are often much dafter than the question. Then someone will say have u had a vet 'no' then all hell breaks loose then the admins wade in threatening with a ban
Its like the equine Jeremy Kyle show.

Haha! :D

Is this serious?

''Quick question: are u allowed to keep a Shetland in ur garden if u r a council/housing association tenant?? If u can provide suitable shelter, etc and regular excercise out?''

the one got me yesterday was which saddle fit my horse. Never herd of a saddle fitter. Yes Equine Jeremy Kyle is how I would describe it
