Chit Chat and Tack

Just had to have a look to see some of the comments on that page, OMG some of them are unbelievable!

Sorry my bad!! I do, however, not bother to get any saddles fitted or measure his mouth for bits because I presume he will let me know when his mouth hurts or if the saddle pinches his back. :o

Was this about the status of having the 'perfect horse' that never needed xyz?

Not that you're one of them:) , but I'm astounded at how many people think nothing of not having saddles, teeth done at least once a year, some owners claimed not to have for much longer, even years and that that is OK? *head desk* (ouch!!)

quite simply put, 95% of people on there shouldn't be allowed within 100ft of a horse, let alone own one. I left the group shortly after it started.

I did get a good bit of trolling in before I left though. Hmmm, might join again for a bit more seeing as I'm a bit bored. :D

I totally agree with Brightbay - some of you actual horse lovers should stay in the group to offer some actual, real advice (I'm not on facebook) and maybe some of it will sink in.

Apparently we should be drying our horses rugs on our radiators at home. Anyone want to pop round for dinner? Please excuse the smell of warm horse ****, it's the rug behind you :p

I love having a browse & having a giggle at how useless they are but its not funny the general situation is worrying that those people are in charge of horses

I commented on this one - I was the one who said how stupid it is not to have a saddle fitted and it in no way contributes to the 'perfect' horse.
Idiots.

There was a post a few minutes ago about how to measure for a saddle, and almost everyone responded with get a saddler out! There may be hope yet!!

Along with people sending out youtube links and getting coat hangers out! Surely if these people cannot afford to get a saddle fitter out and fulfill basic horse care requirements they shouldn't own the horse in the first place!

Very true! Just amazed me that the majority of people said saddler!

Different to your house though! (And my garage doesn't have power, lucky thing you :( ) To be fair it's a good thing, i'd probably get to the yard and realise I'd left the rug at home!

I do leave them at home alot, In fact there is probably one drying in there from yesterday that was forgotten by the OH this morning!

I'm in that group and yes there are some strange things people write and believe in but the best one to drive me mad was one in an American horse forum I frequent, I try not to now as it drives me nuts.
Here's the thread in question, you can see me trying to explain to them about English wooden trees but it seems to fall on deaf ears, they think the whole tree is made of metal and you tack leather on to it!! Yes INTO metal!
I really thought it was some of my saddlery colleagues going on there to wind me up but sadly, it isn't.
Read the first page to see the saddle in question and as you scroll down you'll see it's a cheapy Indian saddle BUT still has a wooden tree with the usual metal re inforcements. Then go to page 6 and post number 55 onwards is me trying to explain things and getting more and more frustrated!
My saddlery colleagues have read it and fell about laughing and thought I did have patience that day,
Posts numbers 62 and 63 will astound you!
Sad thing is there's these sort of posts on all horse forums and people believe them and the horses can suffer as a result when wrong information is given, especially advice on health when a vet would be a better option. Oz
Here's the thread:
