Well had an emergency visit to the vets last night with little old dog. Totally my fault. I was eating a bar of choc (Swiss from Jainique) and left half of it which had fallen down the side of the sofa, Got up to answer the phone and got back to find dog had sniffed it out in a matter of about 2 mins. Was only about 50 gram of dark choc but rang the vets who said it was on the border of what would be safe owing to his weight and his pancreatic problems, so £240 later he was back home and thankfully none the worse. I feel so angry with myself, luckily I had eaten most of it.

Other dog is back to messing in the house even though the back door is open practically all the time so clearing up after her daily, hopefully that will stop again once she has finished her season, and gets spayed.!

Wow, that was an expensive trip to the vets. Years ago, my terrier found a box of Thorntons that I'd hastily shoved under the duvet. I'd only had three of them. Fortunately, she was absolutely fine.

Dont beat yourself up PL. These things do happen.

My Dog ate a triple chocolate cake that served 14 people! I did leave it on the side but I seriously underestimated his jumping ability (lesson learnt!) Luckily no side effects. I did call vets but they said unless he showed any issues and as I couldn't tell them the exact time of digestion then not to bring him in but keep a close eye. Luckily all was fine but I was kicking myself (plus I didn't have a birthday cake either!)

Blimey, that was an expensive bar of chocolate!! Tip for the future; buy yourself a box of soap crystals. Next time one of the dogs eats something they shouldn’t, stick a handful down their throat. Projectile vomiting will occur in a matter of seconds and you will be considerably better off :)

Yep, I remember my Dad mixing strong mustard with warm milk and syringing it down our GSP's throat when he tucked in to a nice bowl of rat poison! The milk/mustard had the desired effect, with it all (plus the little blue pellets) coming out flying very soon after. Not nice, and I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try it, but it was cheaper than £240!

I once left an unwrapped Terrys Chocolate Orange on the coffee table. I did not think our JRT could get up there and she had never stolen off it before. I was gone about 30 seconds and actually wondered where I had put it and thought I was going mad. I spotted her licking her lips and looking very satisfied and realised what had happened. Called the vets who thought it was highly unlikely a small JRT could eat that much chocolate in one go so quickly. I took her in and they gave her some vomiting meds.... a huge pool of chocolate came back and they were amazed. The whole room smelt nice though! She was fine but 13 years on I still have to watch her as she is such a clever thief.

U nfortunately chocolate tasting a bit vile now ! Have to store it for a bit. In the vets yesterday for dog jabs another dog in there which had eaten chocolate that morning !

My mum left a box of Thorntons she'd had for her birthday a couple of years ago on her bed... bedroom door closed...

Cleaner found my dog on her bed, chocolate all over the duvet cover. He'd eaten the lot, plus half the box itself. Still not sure how he even got in the room!

Think it was only £80 for the vets to get him to throw up though.. he gets "free" consultations as he's on a care plan with them.

Glad your dog is ok anyway, life would be boring without them to keep us on our toes/worried sick! :)

Amateurs, the lot of you! ;) My landlady's labrador thieved and ate in one sitting: a packet of chocolate fingers, three packets of crisps, three sachets of instant oats and a kilo bag of sugar.
Other memorable occcasions included 24 Strepsils, multiple pots of Nivea, and a large box of Shreddies. No side effects from anything other than lurid orange droppings the day after.
Hoping all the naughty dogs in this thread are okay though :)

My friend's old dog was a rather talented chocolate thief. He managed a box of Roses, back in the day when they had foil wrapping, and unwrapped them all before eating them. He went to the vets and had the throw-up injection and apparently there was no wrapping there at all! On another occasion, he found chocolate money. Having got the little net bag open, again, he unwrapped every one. (I have enough trouble getting into those, God knows how he managed it!)

Needless to say, they hid the Christmas chocolates away very carefully after that!!
