My mares choked a few times in the last few weeks :(

First time i thought was a one off because she tried to eat a thistle in one go :p

But today she hadn't had a drink in a while (around 2 hours, your really have to encourage her to drink sometimes!) and she almost choked on a polo?

Do you think its because her mouth was dry?

Mine keeps choking as well, first off it was on this very fine hay stuff so put it down to that but has on pony nuts and etc as well. Dont know if the dry weather can affect it, would be interesting to know! :)

Mine used to choke when there was no grass, like now, and then they had hay etc. they would just stuff themselves really quick. I found that by soaking the hay and feeding it soaking wet on the floor then they did not choke. Once grass had some length to it no problem.
