My farmer and new horse owner MIL has a greedy 21 year old horse that keeps getting horrible bouts of Choke - to the point the vet was called twice in one night and PTS was an option (only when my OH and I were looking after the farm - no idea what happens else)... I've told her to take all hard feed away - as even the Veteran soak didn't work. It's hard to give advice to the MIL - He could live out with a rug (which I feel would be better as he can trickle feed), but she insists on bring him in with a couple of hay nets (so he is in a stable from 5pm to 10 am). I've also told her to give him small nets in more frequency, but that doesn't happen. Am I talking to a wall or is there any other advice out there?? I'm thinking of moving the horse to my stock as a last response - would break her heart but I'm to my whits end!
