Woolly Hat n Wellies

I have a mare with a foal at foot, and a gelding. Neither mare nor gelding have choked as long as I've known them (had the mare since January and known the gelding nearly two years). This week the mare has choked twice. We called the vet but she cleared it herself both times (took about 15-20 mins), and then tonight the gelding choked but cleared it himself after a couple of minutes.
We never feed dry feed. They both have hi-fi lite. Mare has a little handful of Saracen Shape Up and gelding has Saracen Re-Leve, always mixed with water, and all hay given to them is rinsed through under the hosepipe first. They have access to water at all times, of course, and there is plenty of grass in the field. This week has been pretty stressful. A new pony moved into the next field and they have been very upset by it, both going into overdrive on protecting the foal. That's the only thing which has changed, they have been on the same feed they've always had. The new pony's arrival coincided with the mare's first choke. They don't seem to have drunk very much, but we assumed they were getting enough moisture from the grass, as clean water has always been available. The gelding has his teeth done annually, they were last checked by the vet in February. The mare hasn't had her teeth done so we've got in touch with an EDT to come to her as we thought maybe that was the reason... but then gelding did it too!
Could the choking be caused by stress with this new pony? If not, what the hell is going on?!
Please help!!
