choking

Quite common, usually they are stuffing their faces so quickly a bit gets stuck!!

Rubbing gently towards the horse usually helps. Glad you wet feeds. I dampen all mine down quite a lot, as I had a pony with choke once, which was awful!!

I also find that with a lot of the supplements they are dry and powdered, so they need to be dampened. Similarly, garlic granules and the powder is awful, and garlic really stings as it's so strong!!

Rocky suddenly started choking like this too so now all he can eat is soup!!! no joke - I have to soak Calm and Condition and Fast Fibre into proper slop! We had teeth and endoscopy done and found nothing so it turns out he is just greedy! xx

Agree Babaybells. Only once had a problem with choke. A new horse, vet identified he needed dental treatment but he choked before dentist could visit. He is OK but his teeth were terrible.

One of mine suffered choke last week was at it for about half an hour and he was making a screaming noise(quite distressing) and he was only eating haylage.
