I had one of these before, which I sold (and now regret!), the full size premium one. It was a little too large, so I could probably get away with the pony size as they are quite generous. I wasn't too sure on the rolls in front though. What model is the preferred one out of those who have one, and why?

I’ve got the premium plus one and I like it. I think mines a pony and it’s plenty big enough.
I quite like the rolls but since I tend to use mine to get pony back into work when her saddle doesn’t fit it’s nice to have that little bit extra just incase.

Exactly how I'm thinking of using it, mainly because I have 3 that can pootle about now, so one between the 3 would be fab! I think I was unsure on the rolls just because I hadn't had padding in front before, but didn't have it long enough to get a justified opinion

My only complaint about the rolls is I can’t vault on her 😂 I certainly don’t feel they restrict on my position 😁

Forgot to ask @Peglo, do you use stirrups with yours at all? I'm asking mainly for the whole "must be in proper tack" thing for riding on the roads, as much as we try to avoid them, there's always a bit of road we need to navigate

No I wouldn’t put stirrups on it. I can only imagine the pressure points they would cause.
Tbh I just take my chances on the road as I never thought anything of it but that may be bad of me to admit. 😬

If you want to put stirrups on I would look for a more structured bareback pad.
Thank you, I thought as much, but you hear so many conflicting things! Any other suggestions for a more structured one, or just stick with this and no stirrups? (It doesn't bother me, riding with no stirrups, I was just wondering about how that works with the highway code thing. Is it law, or a suggestion?!)

Because I'm a saddle fitter any mention of brands is seen as advertising...sorry. Pm, search, find me on FB etc :)

I have the premium CL pad and really like the front rolls, I haven't tried the one without though. I have a pony size on 14.2 and I'm 5'4", size 10 and have plenty of room in it for me. I do have stirrups on it when I'm hacking on the road, I don't use them as in put my weight through them but they are there in case of sudden spooks for my stability. I tend to walk or canter 🤣 or use my thighs if I'm doing rising trot. Pony did 6 months of decent work in it with this set up and physio was very happy with his back.

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking about stirrups for the same reason as you, and it'd only be a walk for two of them, and the younger one basically needs restarting, so steady all the way! I had a full size one that I backed her in, and it was too big, to look right, I think that's why I got rid of it. I'll be looking into the smaller size then!

I also have a premium one, I do have stirrups on it, but we only walk, maybe a few strides of trot(but sitting) , it does have a bit more padding under the seat than the basic one.

I've seen people cut the girth straps off and then use it with a Total Contact saddle, so they have usable stirrups

I have a TC saddle as well, although not yet used it yet and theres no way I could do that to my CL 🫣😂 I have a shimable sheepskin numnah though I plan to use with it.

TCS is another idea I have toyed with. I have three who vary greatly in size and build, and we just need a walk out to get brains engaged, and keep a baseline going. I didn't fancy spending £££ on saddles when they all change shape, and are basically 3 "bin ends" getting a second chance, a happy pootle is all I want!

My horse hated the TCS until I put the Christ Lammfelle numnah underneath it. I thought my arse had enough built-in padding, but she clearly likes a bit extra! I hack round our little farm ride in it, complete with trot and the very occasional (usually unplanned) canter, but haven't quite had the nerve to go out in the wild with it.

(The numnah I mean is this one: https://www.horsedream.co.uk/collec...for-bareback-pads-basic-plus-and-premium-plus )
