Anyone able to give me info where I can find some fun horse accessories for an xmas themed fancy-dress ride. All I can find are really dull hat covers etc but am hoping to find some funky outfits and/or a little more choice than I have managed online so far! Any ideas will be very gratefully recieved.

All the horsey christmas stuff I have seen has all been very samey and expensive for what it is. If you know someone with a sewing machine, or sew yourself then you can have whatever you like!

If you get some red/green fleece or fur fabric, and some white trim you could make a great costume for a fraction of the price of shop ones and itwill be different!

Exercise sheets are easy to make. All you need is an exercise sheet to use as a patern, some red fleece and a couple of boot lases for the fillet string and girth loops. Fleece does not need hemming so there is very little sewing involved. Fleece is about 4 pounds a meter, so dirt cheap. Habdashery shops sell jingle bells for a few pence.

Santa hats sold in pound shops are often stretchy enough to be used over a riding hat... and they are a pound! Reindeer antlers on headbands can be taped on to bridles to give your horse horns. You can wrap tinsle round your reins, martingale etc.

Have a look at the christmas decorations for sale in cheapo shops and look for potential. It is easy to modify numnahs and exercise sheets to make them christmassy. A piece of thin christmas fabric or trim can be tacked on and removed afterwards with no damage to your numnah. Or, if you buy a red numnah/exercise sheet you can easily trim it with white fluffy trim, then you still have a useful item that you can use the rest of the year.

If you want something different, go as a christmas fairy. Pink horsey accesories are easy to come by. Pop in to your local dance shop and get yourself a nice tutu, or make one out of some stiff net. Make your whip in to a wand by wraping itin tin foil and tape a star to the end.

If you want to go as something totaly different, getyourself a long wig and a pink all in one leotard and go as Lady Godiva!
