Does anyone else go out for a Christmas Eve hack as tradition? I don’t ride Christmas Day but always hack today.

Ralph the Shetland came along too today! Bit of a David and Goliath situation lol.

The first year i've got the option and i'm bloody working! Will be going for an early one tomorrow though :D

Yes always as a teenager with my best friend. In recent years though we have to travel for Christmas so the horses just get checked by the horse sitter these days. Christmas Eve hacks were the best, especially in the old days when it snowed sometimes. Followed by a rowdy evening in the pubs. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Yup, we had a lovely hack. Should have copied you and taken the Shetland as well to work off some of the grass she got by limbo-ing under the fence and into the orchard...

Trying to work out if I can be bothered to get up early enough to hack tomo...! Seems a shame not to, but it's such a faff catching in littlies, dealing with mud etc etc.

Looks like you all had a lovely time. It was far too foggy at the yard this morning, one of the hazards of keeping horses on the moor, so I missed out sadly.

I rode alone this morning. It was really quiet in the woods. I met a wildlife photographer wandering along hoping to get some good shots. Unfortunately he was walking in the only canter stretch of today’s ride. Never mind, there is always another day. I don’t think C and I qualified as a good wildlife photo!

I planned to hack but I ended up making up the guest room and wrapping presents.
I also had a panic as the washing machine was making an horrendous noise like it was going to explode:oops:

I've been out, ride and lead, with Fergus and the mare, but that's not a special occasion. It was too muddy for photos anyway :p

Not us sadly, as needed to get to the tack shop by lunchtime for festive carrots.....

Instead I rode in the school with my 7yo, which mostly consists of shouting 'Shorten your REINS ' in a crosser and crosser voice.....

I always try and ride out on Christmas Eve but super frosty and icy here today, sadly not safe to get out, shame as it was lovely, sunny and calm. Thankfully though we got out Saturday and yesterday. We delivered a Christmas card which involved Going Somewhere We've Not Been Before which was rather spooky, the sun cast long shadows and especially the upturned ring feeder in a nearby field caused much horror, but cobbus was overall very brave.
I'm having my first attempt at posting a photo here, apologies if this doesn't work...

I'm working all of xmas, late shifts. Christmas day morn will be family time but managed a quick ride & lead hack this morn, to get both my girls out. Can't take pics when I ride a lead not enough hands and don't trust them not to try and turn round/bite each other!

More glow in the dark than Xmas but we bolted home from this spot on Sat when the people behind the fence revved up their sports car. Think the poor Appy thought the water was about to eat her. So took OH out with us again on foot and she decided that if the monsters hadn't eaten him then we could cross the puddle. Happy Christmas everyone!!!

We used to go out fully decked in tinsel and antlers, but alas, those days are long past!

Now we tend to just splash around in the mud a bit and have some cuddles. Didn't even remember the tinsel this time

I took a couple ride and lead yesterday, but today I just took my mare out for some fun. Muddy but not half bad. Nobody else in sight anywhere - not another horse hacking, not a dog walker nor a car. Perfect :D

I went out for a 30 minute hack and came across the stupidest taxi driver ever. He screamed up behind me, hit the speed bump so hard there was an almighty crash, screeched to a halt beside us, asked for directions to Ripley and as he drove off, honked his horn to thank me.
