Person: is there anything in particular you would like for Christmas?
Me: matchy set, brushing boots, maybe a bag of pony nuts?

Anyone else relate to this? My family and OH asked what I wanted and I actually couldn't think of anything that wasn't for the horse!

I already have my Christmas present from OH, not horsey but absolutely not run of the mill either - a logsplitter.

Sadly my horses don't need anything

I got horses things for my birthday presents last month :D :D so people are buying actual things for me this time! I did ask for horsey things last Christmas though... and no doubt a couple of horse things will slip under the Christmas tree

Oh yes, sister and I have bought each other wheelbarrows, forks, rugs, waterproof gloves, all sorts of horsey stuff and our parents bought us 2 horses to share many years ago. One of the last presents our late father bought us was a wheelbarrow, not that long ago. He also built me a stable for the mare I bought 6 years ago.

Yes! We've just bought out own place - with land woopee! So I've been asking Santa nicely for a wheelbarrow and mucking out tools.... but Santa says he doesn't supply these.

BOO HISS :(

Of course! It's time to get those things you dont really need, but really want! In my case this year a girth that matches the saddle :D

I really don't get the "it's not for you so unacceptable" attitude. These sorts of people would rather give you the umbrella they think you should want rather than something you actually do.

Daughter wants more rubbishy toys she will never play with and I'm steering her towards an air jacket and some more jumps! Things she will definitely get a lot more enjoyment from at her age. However when she's an adult if she wants the boring umbrella that's what she'll get!

Throughout my childhood I don't think santa got me much for myself- my Christmas lists were full of things for my pony. I loved recievING new stuff for him- was fr better than pointless toys! Now as a grown up my pony doesnt receive as much at Xmas and I do get more ' normal' present however I'm looking forward to my wheelbarrow from my OH!

Same here. I got a wheelbarrow last year from my mum. It's huge and pink and the best present I could have asked for at the time. I usually get new boots from OH. Not for the horse but horse related and very welcome.

My parents were also firmly in the camp of not buying anything for my ponies/horses. It was always something that really upset me. Then one year, when I was about 10, my wonderful Nan ignored my Mother's protests and bought me a saddlecloth and fleece coat with mine and my ponies names embroidered on. I remember that I actually sobbed with joy.

Whats the point in asking what we want if they wont buy us what we want? I hate this whole 'obligation' present buying at Xmas so if your going to do it then I either want something for my horse or vouchers for a horsey company to buy myself something for my horse. Simple :)

Quite right. At my rapidly advancing age, there is nothing that I 'need'. Santa has excelled himself this year and is bringing me an equine speed skip. Can't wait!

My family have always been pretty good - lots of presents over the years have been for the horses. Many years ago my brother bought me a lunge whip and carried it home through the centre of Oxford to lots of VERY strange looks :) :) (is that saddlery in the covered market still there?)

Even though he wasn't 'for Christmas', this year I've used up the present pot for about the next hundred years - Hubby bought me our gorgeous Fell pony.

In terms of horsey bits I have some pink hi viz leg wraps coming for Marv, and a beautiful Pikeur coat coming for me :D it's a joint present from both (divorced) parents. It's navy, super warm, super waterproof, and long with side zips to make it comfortable to ride in. Very excited!!

A wheelbarrow seems to be quite popular! I'm happy with all my jackets and boots etc, I just want things for my mare! It is for me... and her. It's a joint present. :D

OH's family always ask for a list (and like very specific orders with a website link) so I usually pop a few bits on there like saddlecloths or whatever. My family are completely none horsey and don't do lists so they wouldn't know where to start with horsey gifts but my mum is pretty good at walking into a saddlery and coming out with joules/ariat/mountain horse gear that I'd never justify buying for myself. She lives round the corner from equiport but sadly even she draws the line at that!

My OH has gotten me new gloves and waterproof trousers as requested as these are for my comfort doing our daughters pony. I have bought pony a new stable rug and salt lick as her Christmas present from the wee one but I can see that in years to come we may be asked for bits for the pony for Christmas, especially once Santa is no longer credible!

I often get horse related things as it's the easiest thing for people to buy for me hehe
Granny isn't horsey at all, but knows horsey jewellery and a gift voucher for the saddlery is always well received :)

I don't really 'need' anything for him, but a something nice for B always goes down well as you never know when you will need a spare numnah or a new brush or two!

Always for my horsey. Never for myself...a new bridle this year although I say for my horsey he doesn't need it but he'll look super pretty in it.

My family are resigned to the fact my presents tend to be for the ponies and practical. Best ever one was hardcore area in front of stables. Only horsy friends could understand how great that was.

My family are pretty good at buying horsey gifts if requested! Over the years I've had riding clothes, a rug and a bridle. In fact, my parents usually always buy me a gift "from" my horse :D

I tend to get a mixture of horsey and non-horsey related gifts. This year I've put a nice saddle pad on my list, absolutely not needed but I can't really justify another myself!

My family/OH alternate between horsey years and non-horsey years to avoid always buying me things for the horses. Fortunately this year is a horsey one as my new boy arrives on the 30th and is a completely different colour to Pops which calls for some new matchy stuff me thinks :)

Brothers buying me a LeMiuex saddlecloth. I had to send the exact link, with colour details etc as he really hasn't got a clue haha.

I'd much rather having something horsey that I will enjoy than something that I really don't want or need (Smellies, anyone??)

I would rather get a tiny surprise present than be asked what I want. I never feel comfortable suggesting anything in case I get the budget wrong, and I had years of my ex husband asking what I wanted, then telling me to get it for myself (and inevitably wrap it as well), and he would pay me back - which he never did. I ended up just buying things I needed, like wellies or new curtains.

This year I bought myself a horse for my birthday, and I shall buy him some accessories for my Christmas present, and I shall get a lot more enjoyment out of that, all year round.

For 2 years running now I have had a 200 litre wheelbarrow from my lovely OH. The first one was the victim of an unfortunate accident and I really missed it, so I was overjoyed when the new one arrived, we agreed that it could go straight to the yard as it wouldn't fit through the shed or house doors :) I'm as thrilled with my barrow as some people would be with jewellry or something.
