Hi Guys ,

Yard Christmas present advice needed!Bit of a dilemma would just like to hear what you guys do ! I have never been on a big yard so am unsure what to do !

So here’s my issue I usually get a some treats for the horses on the yard and so chocolates/treats and a new brush or something for the yard. I have previously been at home , with friends on there yard. Last year was at a small yard with my jockey and her schooling livery’s . So don’t know what I should do this year !

My jockey moved our horses to a competition centre it’s complicated because there seems to be the divid between the other livery’s about 14 of them and our team ( jockey, my horses, a young event rider , jockeys friend and her horse , 4 other permanent horse owners very rarely come up and 7 temporary ) . I just don’t know what I should do re Christmas as I don’t wanna offend anyone but at the same time I don’t have endless pockets !

So my plan originally was to do the following .
- by jockey a new matching XC for them and my horses
- the young event rider and my friend has been taking my horses with her as my lorry’s off the road so was going to get her something as they will never take any thing ! ( unsure what to get or spend)
- young event rider mum does all the driving I know she is has said before to not get her anything she prefers us to get us something for her daughter but thinking I should get her a little pressie at least ?
- apprentice groom a little something like a £10 ?

Then was gonna just get them guys but get the yard some horse treats, carrots and chocolate for everyone?

Since then the jockeys friend has arrived with her horse. Nice lady see her everyday don’t want to offend her by not getting her something when the other but again don’t know what and how much to spend !

I dunno if I am just over thinking it but don’t want it to cost a fortune, don’t want to not get anything for my jockey or friend but don’t want to offend anyone .

What the normal on the big yards also any suggestions on what to get would be great !

I would normally get presents for the grooms and the yard owners, usually something like cupcakes or a gingerbread house. When I owned my own property I used to arrange silent Kris Kringle which we would all open at the Christmas party, so people didn’t have to feel like they needed to get everyone something as it certainly can get very expensive! Then I personally as the owner, would get all liveries something kitch like a mug with a picture I pulled from their FB of themselves and their horse. Would cost about £5 each and they loved it. When I worked on a big yard the people I wanted to give Christmas presents to, I would quietly pop out to their car and leave them on the seat for them to find. That way people who weren’t getting anything from me other than a card wouldn’t know ☺️

Our YO leaves a bag by each stable door with a carrot and some Polos for the horses and a little bottle of gin for the owners!

When it comes to people on the yard, I buy fancy horse treats for my friends, a big box of chocolates for the yard to share, and cash for the grooms. I certainly wouldn't expect presents from people I don't know well.

From your post, I'm a bit confused about how many people are involved and who they are but:

Person who's been taking your horse out and about: Could you get them something for the lorry? Seat covers? Water bags? Gift card to a petrol station!

Mum who does the driving: Bottle of wine.

Apprentice groom: I suspect cash will be most welcome. Grooms generally don't earn a lot.

I'd certain be buying the apprentice groom something as a priority.

I'm a bit confused about who individual people are, but would have thought a bottle of wine (or equivalent) for whoever you want to gift to would be fine.

I've only ever gifted to friends on yards and certainly wouldn't expect gifts off other liveries I wasn't friends with.
