I buy Christmas presents for the big girl., I like to see her play. One of her favourite toys is the big talking monkey that I bought her 5 years ago, her first Christmas with me. We went up to bed on Christmas day and she was unsettled, thinking she might not be well and needed to go out I came back downstairs with her. She wasn't feeling poorly, she just wanted to bring monkey upstairs to bed.

She enjoys playing with Nina Ottosson puzzle toys so for Christmas this year I have bought another to add to her collection, the Multipuzzle.

Do you buy a Christmas present for your dog?

What have you bought them this year?

Usually a Christmas jumper/top thingy. Last year's elicited a loud "oh my god there's a dog dressed as an elf!" from a woman walking by. It wasn't on purpose but she was right and now I look like the sort of person who would dress their dog as an elf. Because I kind of did.

In a very un-him turn of events, I see that my OH has written down 'buy cuddlepillar' on his to do list. So I'm probably ending up with a giant stuffed caterpillar in my house this year.

Last year we bought Purdey an angry parsnip toy wearing a santa hat - she was terrified of it 🤣

Her absolute favourite is a yellow rubber type ball that one of my work colleagues bought for her last Christmas from Aldi - I was convinced she would destroy it in 10 seconds flat but its survived and she carries it everywhere

This is Poppy's first christmas with me. She's getting a new squeaky snake, cos the current one is nearly dead, and a new pretty collar. She's already shown that she really likes unwrapping things, so they'll be wrapped up in many layers with treats in between, pass-the-parcel style!

Because Bandit comes to work with me he gets presents off my work colleagues. I put them under the Christmas tree and he likes to inspect them but he never opens them. Last year I got him a massive bed and a snake, this year I'm thinking about getting him one of thos giggle balls

My poor neglected creatures get nothing. When the children were young the dogs had gifts but listening to a terrier with a squeaky toy (albeit not for long) put me off for life. 😆

I must be a bad owner , I never buy Christmas presents for my dogs, I buy odd bits and pieces during the year , no point buying soft toys as both terriers and the lurcher destroy them in minutes, so I would get new antlers or tough chew things if the others were worn out.

Yes we do buy the dogs presents. Daycare Dog and her owner usually spend Christmas Day with us so she gets a present to unwrap here as well.
The first year the brown Lab that we rehomed was with us, she was 10 months old, so it was her first Christmas. We gave the dogs big knucklebones to unwrap and I have never seen a dog so thrilled.
She was like a fostered child who has just realised for the first time that she is included in Christmas. She has received other presents since but she takes them more for granted now. She knows that Father Christmas knows where she lives and won't forget her.

Our golden rule is "no squeaky toys"!
When we had the Rottweilers one of them got very worried if anything squeaked. She thought it was being hurt. Her sister loved to torment her by squeaking a Kong Wubba, that no- one realised even had a squeaker for years.

Not anymore. My little JRT loved tearing open her presents and showing everyone what the had got. She'd smell a present and know if it was hers and get all excited. Current dog doesn't eat treats and destroys toys within minutes, so no point really. She also doesn't understand how to open a present, so just ignores it.

I've bought two new toys, a jumper that matches the family pyjamas, a festive bed that matches the pyjamas and I've ordered a deer leg off my uncle.

she will only care about the toys and the deer leg. I agree the matching pyjamas for the whole family and matching bed is ridiculous but I got really emotional shopping as I don't know who will still be here next christmas so I might have lost the run of myself.

The older they get, the less they get if I'm honest.

Fen has a new tuggy, a collar and a toy.
Ginny has a new bed and a toy.
Fizz has a few toys including a large pink flamingo which she will adore.
Dobby just has 1 toy so far, I'm planning on finding him something else but my default for him is a frisbee but with his broken toe I'm avoiding it.

My old dog loves unwrapping presents, this was quite handy when my eldest was little as he has hypermobile joints and struggles to rip the paper!

Not sure what I'll get them, I need to walk the line between "fun" and "so fun that I walk around anxiously just in case the other one tries to take it", I might treat them to the stuffed toy where the limbs are strong velcro so can be pulled off and reattached at will!

i always buy rory some presents, he gets to unwrap them and then keeps him occupied from dashing off with all the paper from ours🤣 i usually get a couple of christmas-themed ones from pets at home, i don’t bother with the treats as he gets a mini christmas dinner from leftovers!

his first christmas when we got all the presents out, the majority of them had little holes in them where he’d been under the tree and sneakily had a chew🙈

I always get mine a Christmas present. Frank opens his own (and will help anyone else who wants help opening theirs, too!). This will be Ginnie's first Christmas with us; not sure what the loveable land-shark/menace to society/slinky malinki will make of it. She hasn't destroyed the Christmas tree yet (we're on day 2...) so that's a bonus.
So far I've got Frank a treat snuffle mat, only an Aldi thing. Will get some other toy for G; and a pack of treats each (something revolting like dried rabbit ears or beef tails, keep them occupied while we're doing Christmas stuff!).
They could both do with a coat but I don't want to get them that for Christmas, that's no fun for them to unwrap 😂 I want to see their excited little faces! And yes, I do realise they have no clue what is going on and are not, in fact, children 🤣

Our first dog as a married couple was obsessed with presents and used to open any left unattended. Current three are pretty good but will destroy toys so any they get have to be without any stuffing or we spend ages clearing up. They will get some flat toys and treats this year as usual.

Mine is thick and has no Idea is christmas. He gets nothing 😁

He has on a daily basis medication, supplement, decent quality food which cost enough plus treats, puzzles, toys, varied walks, lots of holidays, days out, run of the house and is insured. He can stuff off if he thinks he will get a present as well 😊

Last year mine got a personalised food bowl to match the water bowl she got for her first Christmas. Not planning on getting her anything this year as she’s spoilt enough and my Mum will buy her a toy to add to the enormous pile of toys she has (she doesn’t destroy them which I find very odd).

No Christmas presents as Clover birthday mid February and I like to go all out for that. She doesn't really need much, she likes to go out and explore and then sleep/get fuss so it's difficult to know what to get her

I don't go as mad but the first couple Christmas we had with the dogs I spent about £70 on toys and treats and these were all wrapped for them to open. They have an advent calendar.
I get them a handful of toys and a few packs of treats now.
There used to be fluff everywhere from toys ripped open but they kept the corpses for ages and still played with them.

He has an advent calender and a stocking with some toys and food in but we don't go mad. I used to think we only do it because of me but this year MrMM bought his advent calender way ahead of time 🤣
