The spaniel rescue that I volunteer with certainly get an influx in late winter/early spring. Beginning of holidays is another busy time. It's cheaper and easier to dump your dog than pay kennel fees.

I know good breeders carefully screen new owners and do their best to weed out the sackless and feckless, but obviously there are those backyard/greeders who are less discerning.
