Christmas - to ride or not to ride - what are you doing?

Yup, a can in the feed and it's a real treat for them - and in moderate amounts (hahaha) it's fine. Think the brewery shire horses - they get a pint when they're on their hollies :D

Shy is sacrificing one can each to the liveries in his barn, and will have the rest over the next few days ;)

Christmas Eve - I'm working at the yard and will ride too
Christmas Day - He will have a day off
Boxing Day - Hunting (as long as yard isn't flooded and we can get out!!)

:)

Pony is semi retired due to a recent diagnosis of an arthritic hock :( and is not really being ridden at the minute so he'll be turned out, usual routine is out all day, in at night.

Christmas Eve working all day. Christmas Day working at 6pm so will ride in the morning if its not raining :) Boxing Day will ride too. Usually go hunting but have spent all my wages on presents for myself :0

One of my best rides ever was on fresh snow(sun was out) out in the lovely countryside on christmas day it was bliss. It was so quiet and no one around we went to top of hill and it seemed like top of the world.
OH was cooking christmas dinner.

I ride both all 3 days while oh spends time with his family. Then xmas eve is me and him time, xmas day I join him at his family and boxing day we go to my parents.

Oh and xmas day is now only day of the year old dear gets ridden without fail. This year will just mean sitting on her to field but will be 18th xmas i've 'ridden` her on the day. 1 Year she was ill we stood her by a wall, I stuck my leg over her back timed a minute and pulled leg back onto wall but every other year she has carried me somewhere, usually a hack. Fully retired now so just a scootch to the field. She's still here though! Touch and go at one point over summer. :-D

Was looking forward to going out with my daughter for a little ride but seeing as there's strangles on the yard further down and THEY DIDN'T TELL US, and one was STILL HACKING OUT, we may run the risk of passing too close to the infected yard.
I am a bit upset about this.

Well....MORE than a bit upset, they didn't TELL US, but I don't fancy spending New Year in Holloway.

Our fields are shut so will be riding in the morning and lunging in the evening as normal, we are at my parents for the day, but hubby is cooking (he is a chef) with my dad as assistant so I don't have to worry about that

I will be riding out on Christmas Day as normal. I think a good walk or a ride out sets you up for the day.

Up really early feed and hay the horses. Take the dogs for a good walk in the woods.

I will then meet up with a friend and we will take the horses out. Back home to cook lunch and then in the afternoon I will take my Mum into see my Dad who is in hospital.

Another good friend is going to feed and hay my horses in the evening.

Mine is sort of semi-retired now. I'm taking her out in-hand today while my sister rides, and then whether I get on her on Christmas day will depend on how she seems. She has arthritis so has been a bit stiff lately with all the wet weather, though she stayed out on Friday night and when my mum brought her in yesterday evening (I was working :() she said that she seemed absolutely fine. So maybe she is better out, even with it being wet. My plan is to leave her out the next 2 nights and then see how she is on Christmas morning. Hopefully I will be able to get on for a potter round the bridlepath :)

Always go for a nice ride, but this year the weather is so awful, it will depend on whether it clears up!.It's supposed to be enjoyable, but trying to get horse to walk into heavy rain blown by 50mph winds is hardly relaxing :D Not to mention wading through the floods!

Fingers crossed for a better Christmas Day :)

Would love to ride on Xmas day but will be weather dependant and on whether I have enough time. Plan to go out on Xmas eve though if it ever stops raining.

I plan to be up early, fed, skipped out, haynets, water ect and then a little hack out if its dry and then home for Xmas breakfast :D

And then i plan to pay the YO to bring her in and feed her so i can have a few drinks at lunch ;)

I usually ride mine every day as she's so full of energy and it's the only way to keep her manageable! Will ride xmas eve, not sure about xmas day (may get lunged in the afternoon instead of ridden), not sure whether I'll be able to ride on boxing day as I go to visit my dad but will spend the morning with her so might do depending on the weather! x

I normally clean my tack xmas day morning ready for boxing day hunting and give the horse a good groom in the hope it saves me a bit of time the next morning. I used to ride aswell but time doesn't allow any more as me and my boss both do both milking's on xmas day to give the rest of the staff the day off. They work boxing day & New Year whilst we are both hunting! (She is Master, myself Secretary so of course we both must be mounted at these important meets, nudge, nudge, wink, wink! None of the other staff are horsey or into hunting so they don't know any different) Plus we both like to hide out in the parlour away from the dreaded guests! (Not that we are scrooges or anything!!)

If I even dared suggest riding on Christmas Day or Boxing Day I'd be single for sure! In fact I've been unable to ride much at all recently as oh is on holiday and doesn't see why horses need riding more than once or twice a week.
