Does anyone know of a stronger pain killer/ anti inflam that bute?
My mare is currently on 1 bute a day but i think the effects are wearing off. Has anyone had any success stories with a stronger drug? She is also on glucosamine supplement

I spent several months managing a horse with gradually increasing doses of bute. I was up to 3 a day in the end. I wasn't offered anything stronger. I'm not aware of anything that can be administered orally, but I'm no expert either.

There are ways of managing a horse to keep it more comfortable and there's no harm in trying supplements, but once you get to the point where the pain can't easily be managed you may be facing some hard decisions, I'm afraid.

Oh bless you this isnt a nice situation to be in. I know what I would be thinking and it wouldnt be looking for another pain killer im afraid :(

Meloxicam...as in metacam or loxicam is another option but it is more expensive than bute.

I really think you need to talk to your vet if your horse is in this much pain. Do you know what joint the arthritis is in? Are steroid injections an option? If there is no way to manage the pain, you really have to look at the quality of life your horse has :(
