My 12 year old Arab has just been diagnosed with a chronic ddft injury after two separate vets misdiagnosed an abscess. I had her scanned and vet simply said that she had re-injured an old injury and a third of her tendon on her far hind was damaged in the fetlock area and to give her 12-18 months box rest. She also told us that after the box rest, she would most likely only ever be able to lightly hack. The vet has been useless and we are reviewing that situation but wondered if anyone else had experience with this? Other posts with this problem seem to only have 6 months box rest at most so naturally I am worried about the prognosis and whether I am doing the right thing box resting her for this amount of time.
Thank you.
